Although Paul still takes a lot of abuse for his tone, I always feel it's a little unfair, as he always seems to tour and record with extremely simple and relatively low cost setups. I had heard a while back that in some cases he wasn't even traveling with his normal amps and just using whatever the venue had, or at least he was doing that for clinics. I even think some of the recent Mr Big stadium shows were just the VM combo amp. There's a relatively new video of him putting together a pedalboard and it's downright funny...piece of plywood, duct tape, etc.
