Peavey XXX..........HIGHLY Underrated.

I always laugh when people's biggest complaints about an amp are the asthetics. If that's the biggest problem with the amp then you're doing pretty damn well!

True, but if it keeps people from trying the amp or taking it seriously than that is an issue.

I have never played a Triple XXX and really have no desire to. Even though the looks are easy to change, the cheese knob labels and name of the amp are not. Sure its superficial, but I sure think they would sell more if they changed the name and look. But then again the amp is not marketed to me anyway....

I guess Gary Hoey is doing this with his signature amp. I am not sure if they are changing the the amp itself but definately changing the looks and name. He has been playing the stock amp with a different appearance for a little while.

That's probably true and you do have a very good and valid point there, but I was coming at it from a users perspective not a manufacturer's. If I loved the way the amp sounded then to hell with the looks...as you said those can be changed easily enough.

i liked the xxx better than the 5150/5150II's i played. they got a fluid lead tone alot easier in my opinion.

Things got some killer fucking tones in there.

If you spend some time with it there are some great tones in that amp.

My major complaint with the xxx was the trucker chick face plate. If you tape up the logo and spray the face plate black the trucker chicks are toned down and most people can't see them. I think the amp looks great in all black, and it only cost about $2 to make the change.

Thats funny you said that, I was thinking about pulling it and doing that at work tonight.....

I ordered 4 new potentiometers for it, (got tweaked in shipping), and I'm thinking about ordering a bunch of new Black knobs for it as well.

I don't think it's anywhere as good as the 5150, but that's just me.

i have both 5150 and xxx andive played with the eqs so much on my xxx and i got it to where it sounds identical to the 5150..

what most people dont realize is that the knobs are so touchy and sensitive.. i ifg. thats why it says only 1 and 10 on the eqs.. lil turns go a very long long way..just a lil tiny tap f the know makes such a diff.. if u dial it in just right u can get the 5150 sound..it takes some time N PATIENTS and a good ear but if u do it right u got the 5150 for $350 to $50
