Pedalboards...

I've been using a Furman PB-8 pedalboard for the past 10 years, and think it's time to upgrade. The deck on the Furman is roughly 26x15, and I've got it pretty crammed on there. Some of my power outlets are starting to die as well. If I were to send my pedals to have a pro board done, about what am I looking at spending?

Ive looked for years. This ones homemade, the towel is for true bypass tone.

Friedman at NAMM last year talked about putting out pedalboards but i have't heard a word about it.

I can't justify spending $400 to $600+ just for a board.

if it never leaves your house that would work just fine but that would take far to long to setup and tear down for just about any gig where time is a factor. having something you just grab from the case and plug and play is crucial for me.

In the 80's i could carry 4x12's by myself up stairs whatever.

Those days are over ...

I had a Fender Twin that weighed about 80 lbs.

Killer clean tone but everytime i carried it up stairs felt like my knee-caps were going to pop off.

Thats the only reason i sold it.

Mine is similer to Chester's (sans TB towel ). Just a piece plywood spraypainted black with velcro. I store it an old soft-sided suitcase that it fits in perfectly (cuz I cut it to be so). Homemade power supply that is ~20yrs old (top left) and quiet. Plug cable from guitar to first pedal (Discombobulator) and cable from last pedal (RC Boost) to amp. Plug in one power cable for whole thing...done.

When using an amp with distortion/FX loop I remove the OCD and/or BE OD and put channel switch pedal there. Unplug cable from last OD remaining and connect amp input cable there. Run Send/Return cables to Nemesis/RC Boost and done. Some of this is already done before a show.


I think I can squeeze a few more on there.

I wish someone would make a cable routing stomp. Like the post above I sometimes need to go straight in the front and sometimes split my signal for an amp with a loop. Someone should make a stomp size routing box with a switch on it so you could insert your cables and just use the switch to go all in or split the signal pre/post loop.

It's really not that hard to cut cables and solder the connectors. Get the platform, secure the pedals (think through the layout - twice as long as you think you should), layout cables with some excess length in organized paths that you can bundle and then remove, solder and test one-by-one. Use pedal pictures from the numerous threads that are on here for inspiration, direction and ideas.

I'm OCD and enjoy that shit. I wouldn't pay someone else to do the work, only to buy special buffer boxes or switching units that I need...

whatever you do, insure the following.

- strategy for in front of amp and/or effects loop unless you have multiple copies of modulation pedals.
- prototype it out with a looper box
- strongly consider a pedal board interface buffer
- keep the hendrix like effects in their own loop away from
the buffered inputs.
- pick pedals that avoid noise, plenty of likeable pedals out there that are total
shit with respect to noise and tone drag (too bright, thin, etc)..
- think about gain-stacking pedals to create an organic tone into a clear setup unless you want to
sound like every guitar player that plays through a specifically voiced preamp gain style amp.

Never played with a Musicomlab..... can you go straight to the amp and fix loop with that?

Absolutely. I have pedals in front and in the loop of my Mark V:25 with this unit.

My boards really close to yours, and yes the Musicomlabs 62M is the best choice I think for medium size boards. Does all your amp, pedal, great Midi, and expression pedal functions all configurable in each preset. Perfect for people that use a couple big Strymon pedals in the amp loop, easy to use very reasonably priced (no affiliation but the owner is a genius).

I like that I can control the Strymons via MIDI and not have to use a loop for each. However, I do have my Mobius in one loop so that if I say, use the Phase, I can put it in front of the amp instead of through the loop. Via MIDI you can toggle the Pre/Post param on the Mobius. Super cool.

For anyone that owns the ES-8, any problem MIDI controlling the Strymon units? I've read some complaints.
