I like A lot of Guthrie’s stuff but sometimes when I think he should maybe let a note ring out he does the opposite

Yeah Donnie.

I really like Shawn's Powers of Ten album. Listen to it once in a while and after 29 years I'm still not sick of it.

I think most of his output was with Jonas Hellborg FWIMBW.

Dude is one of the most talented guys ever to pick up the instrument for sure.

What's Guthrie been up to lately anyway? Haven't seen a lot of him in the past couple years.

Quick story about PoT

Moons ago traveled with a customer around China who played and was a huge Satriani fan.
He'd never heard of Shawn so after we'd settled in for the flight home I cued up Not Again
really loud and handed him my headphones.

Immediately starts getting into it and then I notice him really starting to concentrate.
The plane was quiet enough I could hear his breathing getting faster and I swear by the end
of Shawn's solo the guy was on the verge of hyperventilating!

?

The Aristocrats stay active. The main USA guy for Strandberg Guitars is an old buddy
and their manager. He's been close with GG since he first broke on YT playing over
backing tracks around 2007.

Shawn used to come over to my dad’s when I was a kid to listen to his Snell loudspeakers and HiFi. Shawn was such a nice guy. Saw him last in ‘03, just before he died. Tortured soul, no doubt.

Wow Nigel, what an honour for you mate.

So sorry to hear that his passing was more than just an "oh no, not another great guitarist" loss for you brother.

That's so cool.

I co-ran the Memphis Monster forum many years ago and got to know some of those close to him.

Tortured for sure.
God love Jonas Hellborg and Jeff Sipe for supporting Lane through those amazing albums and shows.

Would have been the ultimate shame if all we had was his two solo albums.

Guy on the right is Alex Masi.
Maybe the closest I've ever heard a guy really be able to do Shawn's thing.
Check out the album 'Late Nights at Desert's Rimrock'.
Put a band-aid on your jaw first.

Alex was a member of the forum I mentioned after Shawn passed and maybe 10 years ago
I got to hang with him for an afternoon. We talked about the night this picture was taken and
the two things I remember clearly was that even unplugged he could hear Shawn's playing
from across a crowded and loud room.

And that Shawn could effortlessly write his name and address down on paper while carrying
on a conversation - with both hands simultaneously.

Love Guthrie but Petrucci can hold his own no problem.
