Stopped in at a store which stocks them. I had to see what all of the fuss is about. First impression I thought it was pretty good for a modeler, I liked the Recto sounds the most. I'm not sold that it felt as good under my fingers as my Marsha but I was using a budget guitar and played in a music store. I can see the hype, but so far no cigar. I am keeping an open mind though.

I'll say it again - the stock profiles kinda blow. 99% of what I like are either profiles I've made or ones I've downloaded. I can't think of a single 'stock' profile that I ever use.

If a store really wanted to sell those, they would set one up in a 'profiling' room and show how it can duplicate an amp. I had a friend over last night, I modded his amp for him, and then I made a profile and showed him how it worked. He HATES modelling/digital gear, and was freaking out how well it copied his amp.

The stock profiles are indeed very lackluster. I was very underwhelmed when I first got my kemper due to this. There are some great free profiles at the rig exchange. Also, the profiling works exceptionally well when comparing recorded clips. Some amps profile better than others, though. All in all, it's very few profiles where the actual feel of the amp is captured as well as the recorded tone.

.

Aint that the truth Pete? That can be applied to almost any processor that Ive ever played and for the life of me , I just dont get it. For Example, The GSP110 by Digitech sounds phenomenal but if you just played the presets that it came with, youd think that it sucked..

I thought that I was done with the whole digital thing after gigging with the AxeFx for 2 years but an afternoon of wailing away on Ralphies Kemper blew my doors off like never before... That Golub Modded Marshall was the GOODS!!!!

I'll tell ya, I've gotten a lot of mileage out of the stock "Brown Sound" preset on the AxeFX Ultra. People have told me they thought they were listening to the original album on some clips even though I was using the Guitar Hero backings that don't have any of Ed's guitar... All I did was turn off the Phaser...

Not all presets suck...

The exception that proves the rule :D

I dunno man, I was just giving one example - there are certainly other stock Axe-FX presets I liked. I'll also say that I've found some cool stock profiles on the Kemper as well. The big problem I always had with most presets was the overblown effects. Turn those off and there are some gems in there...

Folks, I have just entered the Kemper Club! ;-) Paying the fella tonight through paypal and should have it next week.

I already have a BUNCH of profiles. Some I bought, and others I had emailed to me.

SAH5150 - DUDE.... I am going to be profiling my Blankenship VariPlex w/ Celestion Blackbacks.... all Van Halenized. I know some guys that have professional recording gear. I want to get some really great Mic Pre's, the Royer 121, SM57, my UA SOLO 610, etc. I want to profile the VariPlex the best I can. Gonna get some help.

I also have the Friedman Brown Eye with Scumback 65watt Blackbacks. I already have Friedman profiles from the Amp Factory and a few others. I want to get some AWESOME Dirty Shirley profiles!

This is really exciting. I can't wait to hear the results!

The only two stock profiles that get any real use on my Kemper are the AC Top Boost Cactus and Hey Jim profiles. All the other ones I use are pretty much from the profile exchange.

Putting the Kemper in perspective in my particular situation, it is definitely one of the best gear purchases I have ever made over the years. For someone like me who lives in an apartment and only plays for enjoyment and doesn't gig at all, it really provides more that I could ask for in a single piece of gear. Now if I lived in a private home and was in a band, I would most likely think differently and have a nice quality tube amp but the Kemper has allowed me to play much more frequently at all hours without the worry of disturbing the wife or my neighbors. I guess the same could be said for any other type of modeling gear as well but I do prefer the Kemper to the Axe FX Standard that I used to own. Plus the community of profiles from users seems to keep growing and has allowed me to have a nice collection of sounds from amps I would never be able to play in person.

Just my 0.02 cents ;)
