Are you thinking of Doves Cry? Maybe there's a couple extra notes there, but 95% of his stuff IS pentatonics. There's nothing wrong with that. Most rock players rely mostly on them.
People want to act like he's continuing some sort of Hendrix legacy or something. It's not remotely true. He's not in the same universe as Hendrix. IMO.
Like I said, I enjoy some of his stuff. It's catchy, funky.
