It just seems like such a sweeping statement. The "proof" seems quite dubious. Sure, it may hold true for Gibsons, but I hear Fenders are still knocking it out of the park without spending an arm and a leg.
I have played some of the ESP Ltds, and they are amazing guitars. Same goes for budget Ibanezes.
Granted, they are not the best of materials, but if they can keep the intonation right and you have good pups in them, they sound good enough for the stage. I've seen a lot of bands playing them, and I don't have any complaints about the tone.
