As far as I know, the Komet 60 is not Class A - very few push-pull amps are. It's probably Class AB like everything else. The fast/gradual switch didn't alter the mode of the power tubes (e.g., triode/pentode) but rather cut some gain late in the preamp.

I believe you re correct on the AB but think you are wrong on the latter. It affected the attack more than the gain. but I am no electronics guru so not positive on what it did. and don't PP amps have a presence control ? Single ended amps don't right? I don't know squat technically and don't even know wtf that means. but the K60 has no Presence control. it does have a hi cut. Amazing tone machine regardless!

PP and SE amps can have presence controls. The conventional presence just takes some of the high-frequencies out of the negative feedback loop. You can put a NFB loop in anything, although they are often missing from some designs by convention.

The conventional Hi Cut sits across the push-pull lines and cancels out some high frequencies. Take out a capacitor and you cancel out all frequencies (i.e., you have a simple post-phase-inverter MV).

The fast/gradual switch is indeed a late-preamp "gain" switch that cuts the signal in gradual mode. I won't divulge the details, and I'm sure it's sonic result is as you describe.

The sound demos on YT sound amazing. Very inspiring. Would pair nicely with a Torpedo Reload, Fryette Power Station, or BadCat Unleash!

i had a k60 for a long time.

i hand a love hate relationship with it

loved fast mode

dynamics of the wall

great old school marshall cranked to ten sound.

could not get over the ghosting and low end break up when running it that way.

very fickle with pedals as well.

i think i would have been better off with thte hd version which seems to address these tupe of problems fors players who run em flat out.

interrested in the ert 33 but hate el84

gonna ask hogy at namm if he makes an el34 version

tried the concord as well. but that one felt like a cracked 50w metal panel. great. but not what i wS looking for.

def need to check a hd version with ps 2

What is ghosting?

I have had just about every amp but one of these. They sound great. I cant remember, are these class A?

I cant recall either. It had the fast gradual switch but I think that was pentode /triode, I think was AB but not positive. It has been a long time.

They definitely sound incredible, that's for sure. Man, that Bogner porn page is crazy. Do you still have a 100b? Those are really awesome amps. Right now, I only have one amp, but it is awesome, the Masotti x100m. I love it, but I miss the days of having multiple amps.

I sold my last one several years ago when I decide to go into business for myself. needed the cash..

the one I really want back is xtc 100b #001!!!

Of the amps I've owned, the Wizard MTL is the most touch sensitive/expressive amp I've experienced. And it can be a very low gain amp if you need it to be. Most clear uncompressed amp I've experienced.

Wizard metal is awesome but a bit of a different beast. WM is MV and has a lot more eq'ing. the K60 is like a runaway train but yes the WM is a monster. If you look in the Bogner porn thread, you will see I had the Wizard Metal X and the Komet both at the same time.. I went to Namm that year swearing by 2 amps. K60 and the Wizard. not sure the Metal X was necessarilythe best Wizard for me though. lol

you have good taste!
Thank you sir! You as well. I remember lurking here way back, and I saw a thread where you bought like 10 Marshalls? Epic..

I didn't get to own this particular one but a '69 Marshall superlead that I got to use a lot in the 90's was easily the most touch sensitive, volume knob responsive motherfucker of a rock n roll amp I've ever played. I've never played a Master volume amp of any model that can touch a good Non Master amp for those qualities. Hard to beat 2 gain stages driving hard straight to the power tubes as opposed to 3-6 compressing all to hell and a resistor pot at the end. I will say my Stiletto cleans up pretty good from high gain but Plexi's/1959's and Bassman's will always rule supreme for me.

Oh that one . The U-hualRun!! Hate to repost and look redundant but somehow I think that one will never get old... LOL. For me, divorce was like a freedom ticket to party and go nuts so I did. Turned the whole house into jam pad/rock and roll naughty dance party heaven. It was a very fun era of my life!.. LOL.

I think I need a divorce...  ..

That amp sounds killer. My Ampeg V2 is (was) very touch sensitive, not el34 of course. But these Trainwreck clones are great.

Gorgeous sounding amps. I've wanted a Komet since the Constellation came out. Somehow I always manage to end up buying something else instead, though.

they are beautiful sounding. IIRC mine ate tubes pretty quick but that is no surprise i suppose being that is pretty much a crank it up type of amp . The Constellation was the 18watter el84? I am kinda fuzzy on details.

I've owned a stupid number of amps over the years, and nothing comes close to the Morris GCM 008 for pure/organic tone. It forever changed my perspective on how touch responsive an amp can really be. It's the best kept secret in the world of amps, as far as I'm concerned.

My old 1972 Marshall small box by far. That amp taught me that definitive EL34 tone comes with hearing damage.

I always get excited about a Komet....then check the prices :(

I have seen some clips of Morris amps recently and they sounded GREAT!!!

Landgraff 50 or 100 watt head. Never played anything that comes close.

No he made about 15 50 watt heads, 2 100 heads, several Tweed Deluxe styled, Tweed Champ styled, and a few one offs. He was best known for his pedals, but his amps were the best I played. Problem is got up to a 4 year wait. He died last year, so no more.

Yeah, it was their 30 watt el84 design. To this day it may be the best looking cabinet design I've ever seen. I've heard rumblings that there might be a new Komet design coming this year which has my interest is pretty piqued.

Were the 50 and 100 watters plexi type amps or something else? Where did you get to try them?
