Anyone own both of these?

Gassing for a quad cortex. Mostly for convenience so I dont have to carry my heavy amp around. Considering the price tag of course I'm also looking at the AM4 (back in stock btw)

The downsides are that ill need a great powered FRFR and even then I'll probably still miss the feel of the tubes. Bringing a 4x12 and power amp would defeat the purpose entirely for me. Purely want this for a portable rig.

I don't need any fancy FX either. I will definitely play around with it for fun but at the end of the day ill be finding the best single tone I can get and leave it alone.

I like the crazy metal tones fwiw and use the Uber Ultra, my favorite amp to date so im looking for the best sound.

Willing to bet the QC sounds 1% better but does it sound $1,000 better than the AM4?

Not looking at any other units.

I don't have either but I'd like to say, because you and I sound like we like more simple setups, that I'd get the AM4 based on my inexperienced personal bias which means absolutely nothing!

I was hard flirting with qc when it came out, but I heard it couldn't switch between presets on the fly

If you have an amp you love already and just want to keep it simple: get the QC and capture your amp. That's what I did and am completely happy.

I had an AFXIII and it sounded fine but I couldn't help but fuck with the endless controls. The QC capture just works and I'm done.

How do you run your QC? FRFR? Power amp and cab? IEM?

I don’t own either, but do have an AxeFx 3 and have weighed these type options before (Fractal or QuadCortex) so I’ll give you my take for what it’s worth.

I would go with the QC if I played a lot of covers and want to download different captures. The AM4 if I enjoyed creating things myself. Although there are plenty of downloadable patches for the Fractal I still enjoy building myself.

The AM4 and QC really are different tools. AM4 is a more stripped down version of the Fractal, and the QC Is their top of the line.

If you're the type of person who would do more than just a basic preset, the AM4 may be a bit lacking. Its really more of a competitor to something like the Line 6 stomp, but would be something cool to build a small board around.

I have an Axe FX3 and a FM3, and I have them for different purposes, though the AM4 wasn't in existence when I bought my FM3 but I have no doubt I would be just as happy with the AM4 as the FM3.

I found a preset I really enjoyed on the Axe and most of my play has been on that same preset and I have done small tweaks to it but its largely the same factory preset, and I have copied those changes to the FM3, I don't get bogged down in the massive amount of parameters.

Personally I don't have much interest in captures, and I I don't usually look for presets to buy, though I have picked up a couple.

If it were me, and I was just looking into these, I would probably go with the AM4 and a Tonex pedal and just add what other effects I may find I want.

Personally I would just get a ToneX One and make a capture of your amp so that you have a digital portable version of your amp that will fit in your pocket.

The Quad Cortex can do that also, but it is way overkill for just that.

I did think about that but then id need a di box for FOH?

The Nano Cortex is more stripped down but easier to use than the ToneX seems to be.

I had a QC but it was overkill. Bought a Nano and have been happy with it for months, which is a long time for me haha.

I recently had a jam session with this guy using a nano and it sounded pretty good, kind of started getting me thinking about getting one.

Does the QC capture(s) sound better to you than tweaking the AFIII for the same result ?

I can't speak for QC, but I have been preferring ToneX to my FM3 for pure tone/dynamics. I find it more punchy and immediate like the real amps, where I find Fractal has more of a smoother, recorded like tone. I have been making captures of my tube amps, and the result is very hard to tell from the original amps.

For me, yes. The AFX sounds fine, but I couldn't get it to sound like my amps. Particularly things like the Recto and the 5150. Marshall sims were closer but I just wanted the sounds of my amps in a smaller, easier to use box. The QC was better for that purpose.

Do you think the QC is actualy the best gear to do capture ? I m tired to tweak my FM9 , the result isn t as good as my IRX or Imperial pedals or Synergy stuff straight in my daw . But i don t want to carry all that gear ... (i always play live with FM9) not bad at all but ...

From the videos out there, ToneX, NAM, and QC all seem to be pretty similar in thier capturing results. It really comes down more to which ecosystem you want to work in.

I like ToneX because I can run a DAW plugin or put it in a pedal. QC has no plugin, and NAM has very little hardware currently.
