I own an old '71 100 Marshall that was owned by Richie Kotzen. It was modded, with a cascading gain circuit. I have no idea who did the mod, but often wondered if it could have been a Jose amp. Richie owned this amp during the Poison era, and Mother Head's Family Reunion album.

Honestly, the mod was not all that great. Sounded okay, but nothing earth shattering. I've since had the amp reworked by Friedman, and it's much better than it was.
I could tell you from a gut shot in two secs if Jose did the mod. Lemme know if you want to know if he did it...

-is it not common knowledge EDDIE loves to create drama about his amp's?!?!... its an URBAN LEGEND!!!.. why did he take the Magic Marshall to SUHR, FRIEDMAN, SOLDANO, in the first place? cap job??, scratchy pots??? or just a good going over????

- ED should of put all kinds of old electrical shit inside the amp, be super secretive & make them come out to see it, but only for a half second before slamming the trunk and burning rubber!!

  Yeah, no shit!

Never actually played one, but I think my favorite Jose Marshall I've heard is Mick Mars #1 Marshall that he sold to Richard Fortus. I know they both toured with for some time before Richard finally retired it after having it cloned by Trace at Voodoo. Mick's Jose is actually Richards signature Voodoo R4 amp now. Id love to have one.

Heard a real Jose once, didn't think it sounded as good as a stock JCM800 or JTM. Sounded absolutely nothing like EVH.

The only people I know with real Jose amps is Mike Fortin and Joe Holmes. For some reason, many of these ended up in the Japanese market. You used to see them pop up on eBay for about $7000.

3 monkeys has one, not sure if it's Brad's or one of the other guys'. It has an extra 12ax7 and footswitchable standby if I recall correctly.

I had 2 of them... way, way, way overhyped. My original 67SLP destroyed both of them. 1 was a '71 metal panel... the other was a '73 metal panel. Both 100W. Both legit and verified with pedigrees. Made money when I sold them though. I've owned/played a majority of the "famous" mods... stick to the real deal with a decent pedal. Every now and then a great sounding one pops up... but's it the exception, not the rule.
:)

Marked for later when R-T finally cracks the code on this

Maybe yours were later mods, I dunno. All I know is mine were amazing. There wasn't one guitar player who heard them back then and wasn't wishing they had one. No hype, just the facts of my specific experience.

So Steve, just so I know which one of your amps is the closest to the Jose's you had? Your amps pop up used every now and than so wanna know which one to look for, thanks!

The Bottle Rocket sounds closest.

The mods we're inconsistent due to the Spanish to English barrier. It's well documented that Jose was taking English classes and his difficulty with reading part values in English.

I never knew that part values listed in numerical form and purpose, direction, capacity etc. (which all are) or in measurement ....either metric or imperial required knowledge of the English language?

This is the first time I've ever heard that.
Weird, odd, and strange are these words from you.

Are parts values any different in other languages? 100k Ohms, .0022uF, 500VDC, etc. sound pretty universal to me. Maybe it was hard to order by phone, since there was no Internet then, but anyone can handle numbers in any language and just read off product codes from a catalogue.
