Not entirely sure the level of activity here but it seems like nothing is moving in the classifieds at any forum TBH. I have a bunch of tasty gear that I'm going to sell. Should I even bother posting it here/elswhere or should I just post up on evilbay and/or Reverb? Even some desirable gear seems to be sitting.

I have about 15-20 pedals to list and 6 amps (Mesa, Orange, H&K).

Sorry to the mods if this seems like an ad as its not my intention. I just wanted some advice on whether it was worth the time and effort to post up on classifieds. You can move this thread if you feel necessary.

If you set up a little display in front of your house I can stop by and take a look. Deal?

You will get a lot more eyeballs on Reverb or Sweetwater Used. I sold a guitar recently on Sweetwater Used, and got a fair price that wasn't under what I expected. I didn't get much interest on here, even though the price was slightly lower that SW price. It's just a tough time for sellers, unless you have something in extremely high demand.

Sellers are listing gear way to high (typically) check reverbs active listings vs the sold listings, and you will see a pretty big difference.

Common items are plentiful. But they do move when they are listed around the sold listings prices.

Less common items, unless youre marketing it at a steal of a price, has to wait for the person looking for something less common.

I haven't had much luck selling here. I can usually put the same thing on Reverb, and sell it a lot quicker and for more.

I have a crate of tan Dockers that will probably sell like hot cakes here once I list them, just going by some recent threads.

PM me for details. I offer bulk discounts!!!

In the last two weeks I’ve sold 2 half stacks and a guitar with total proceeds of about $9500. Stuff moves if you price it properly …just not here. lol

Actually, not true. The guitar was sold in response to a WTB thread here. The amps/cabs were local pickup so didn’t bother here and sold on Facebook. I seem to have more traction selling through the Facebook gear groups/ marketplace these days. I refuse to use Reverb to sell.

I put an offer on a power amp that had 5 or 6 sales in the 900-1,000 range. Guy listed his for $1,499 (new is $1799). Offered $1000 and sent link with all the aforementioned completed sales. Guy was delusional and wouldn’t budge on his price. Can’t take that big of a loss…. I’m like, dude….you already did.

Yeah, some of it is pretty funny, saw a regular old run of the mill Gibson LP Standard 60s listed at I believe $3400, I was close to sending him a link of all the sold listings.

Sellers & buyer here cain't have dialog unless you pass the double secret probation test.
And there is no buyer protection.

Might as well list it here just in case someone is looking, it’s basically 0 effort and you can save yourself and the buyer a good amount of money in fees

this

most of the time you will know if it's something worth posting here, because of the types of items that get attention here.

also a lot of the people complaining about things never selling are asking way too much

What does that even mean? There is plenty of dialog both in the DMs and public postings :dunno:

Moreso than many other mediums.

Buyer protection here comes in the form of paypal and credit cards (for example) but more importantly - reputation. We have had very few 'bad seller/bad buyer' scenarios. Sure the sCameron and @riffsfordaze issues but by enlarge I would say it is pretty safe here? Smaller audience than say Reverb sure, but that can also be for the better. Less tire kickers. I would go well under what I really want for something here, vs other outlets. I'd rather lose a little and pay it forward. That and, karma.

YMMV obviously. You probably feel screwed no matter what you do. :dunno:

But @PurityS.L.G - you've been here long enough to know whether or not Rig-Talk is for you

You should post it everywhere, on Rigtalk, Marketplace, Reverb, etc.
Look to Reverb for sold listings, price accordingly and you just may sell your shit.
Ask greedy retard prices like $17k for a DRG C+ and it’s gonna sit forever.
True. But price it to low and people think there is something wrong with it. Hmm, extra low price it must have issues. I was trying to move a pretty sweet LTD Viper for well under the going rate and no one bit on it for three months except for one ultra lowball offer. Raised the price $200 and it sold in a week for $50 less than the asking price. Tel me what sense that makes smh.

That is ridiculous, and if you raised the price $300 I would have bought it.

While I have you here I wanted to complement you on your avatar. I'd been meaning to do so. It's my favorite on the entire forum cause every time I see it on the main page it looks like a delicious double chocolate donut. It took like 3 months for me to realize it is actually a chocolate donut that someone smeared some white icing on, which I don't understand, since I'm not a fan of white icing.

I can’t believe it took 17 years for someone to finally notice that.
Stay observant, Rigtalk. 👍🏼

I always post stuff here, because it's easy. But to be honest, absolutely nothing sells. Maybe pickups or a pedal will sell. But amps and guitars, forget about it.

Pretty much every sale I make is from Facebook Marketplace or The Gear Page.

I don't use Reverb. I've been able to sell everything I've listed in the last 5+ years without using them. I know it's saved me A LOT in needless fees.

Doesn't seem like there are any serious buyers here on RT for higher priced gear.
