Recommend Me a Pickup!

Going to have to recommend the Rio Grande BBQ too. Just got one in an axe and it excels at what you want. But of all the pups I have tried from BK and MC I still go back to a SD JB in the bridge of a Les Paul. It just works.

Was slow in warming up to it but i really dig the dimarzio 36 anni! It's got some bite and zing though so in a bright guitar, it might not be your thing. I'd stay away from the custom custom, too flabby in the bass department. That said, you are worth more than duncan/dimarzio so all my points lack relevance.

That was sarcasm.

I'm sardonic at best.

I know! all good, I thought it was funny.

There's only so much that can be conveyed via the internet.

A lot of guys are sensitive around here these days.

That being said,

The BBQ pickup is cool but I've tried it before and it had something at the time I didn't like. I'm willing to give it a go again though.

My favorite so far are the T-Rex/Detroiter and Rebel Yell.

I just sold a Rebel Yell. I owned one before in a Les PAul Custom and I liked it quite a bit. I ab'd one recently with the Barrybucker and there was no comparison. The Barrybucker had a bigger rounder low end and it had much better clarity in the Historic I tried it in. Possibly the best bridge pickup I have tried yet.

Grab a Seymour Duncan Liberator and a bunch of pickups and see which one you like best ;)

How are you liking the Budda?

No offense to builders as I am sure they make some great stuff but if boutique pickups are anything like my experience with boutique amps, I will pass. Having said that, I have a bright guitar and tamed it very well with Seymour Duncan pickups, Custom Custom in the bridge and a Alnico Pro II in the neck. Excellent combination.

What on earth do you mean?

I have yet to find a mass produced pickup that even holds it own with any of my boutiques...

Sure some of them sound good, but are always more sterile and lacking a certain 3d quality.

Like I said, I am sure there are some builders that make great stuff. I just know a lot of guitar players and tones I like use mass produced stuff. That's all I really meant by it. Didn't mean to start a debate. Everyone has different taste. :)

Wade said I should try the Detroiter.

I was just going add a +1 for the detroiter; Wade's recommendations are usually always right on. The detroiter has got some extra magic in the mids, and its nice and tight in the low-end. Not *exactly* a P.A.F per se but it overdrives an amp more than it's 12KOhm winding might infer, as doe the 2nd deg. blackbelt.

He said it's 9.2K roughly.

PAF territory is good enough for me.

Take a look at the Arcane pickup offerings. Curt (chubtone) is a dealer and can give you the scoop. Killer pickups.
