Redback or Creamback M65 for Splawn 4x12?

I bought a Splawn 4x12 about 2 years back, and I've never been quite happy with the speakers in it.

Started out with the Smallblocks, which just didn't have the same magic as a greenback in it, and I never bonded with those speakers.

Currently, I have 2 V30's and 2 K85's in an X Pattern in the cab, and it sounds overly bright and beamy, which actually kind of surprised me.

My current go to cab is my Friedman BE cab, with Greenies up top and v30's on bottom.

I'm thinking of grabbing either 2 Redbacks or 2 M65 Creambacks for the top 2 speakers of the Splawn and leaving the V30's on the bottom

Which one will be a little fuller and darker? My Splawn Quick rod is plenty bright, so I'm looking to add fullness without mud to the cab to fill it out.

Depends the head, running through....but I didn't like small blocks at any point. I threw 4 governors in mine. Sounds way more pissed but not beaming.

I find the Redbacks to need some break-in time. I've had two that were a bit bright/sizzly out the box and have dialed back the treble a bit. They do warm up over time, but it's still an H magnet vs. M overall M will always be warmer. ...But for a Splawn, I think I'd go the M65's on top. Scott recommends them and numerous guys dig 'em with their splawns.

I think the 65 will be darker, less sizzle. I like them a lot.

I didn’t find the Redback bright at all. Actually the opposite. Round top, flat mids, deep, tight bottom. Least amount of color of any Celestion I’ve played. Sounds massive.

I havent tried the Redbacks yet but I plan to on my next cab. I did have a Splawn 2x12 with the Creamback M65 and I loved them with my Splawn amps. I played an Orange through it and it worked well. As far as with my Orthos I wanted a bit more bite so I went with a Creamback 75 and a V30 which works great for this amp.
