I haven't seen him in 17 years, and he lives less than 10 miles from me. He started a band (Mallet) back in 1994, and asked me to join... I asked him; "Can you actually sing, or do you just stand next to the mic?"Ventura":1ojpr9rl said:See now THAT is a definite poseur. I would love to get a few bettys to chat with him one day after some killer sets to see what he said the surf was like... This is what I'm talking about. This is definite poseur material. And, considering he actually dons a wetty only to take it off an hour or so later, is also borderline pathological. This guy seriously thinks he's killing it Slater-style out there I betTrueTone500":1ojpr9rl said:LMAO! I know exactly what you mean... This guy Rob use to ride around town with a Richenberg board strapped to the top of his AMC Concord, but he didn't surf! He use to show-up at the inlet, and would stand at the back of his car (sometimes wearing a wetsuit) with the board propped-up next to him.![]()
He'd do that for about an hour or so, and then take off. He actually had Randy shape him that board, just so he could ride around posing as someone who surfs... Kooky!

That is exactly where I'm coming from in regard to my general dislike of relics. I suppose it's more about the people that I've come across in music retail, at clubs/gigs, and hosting a monthly open jam night than the guitars themselves. In my experience, the "relic" guys have been exactly what you describe above...trying to look like grizzled rock and blues veterans, talking up a great game, and then sucking beyond belief once they start to play (if they even have the nerve to play and not just talk).
