That’s wild . Does he ever use another overdrive or what ?
He's doing a bluesy thing these days, on weekends. He's retired but for years played in an 80s hard rock band, they went to LA in 87 to shop their demo but nada. He has probably 6-8 vintage Superleads that he used to just crank to 10 and hit the TS for leads. Old school. He might have more boost pedals but back in the late 70s/early 80s the TS was most popular. I told him 15 yrs ago that his vintage gear is his retirement fund lol.

Preey cool ! Damn good gear

Never was a fan. I've tried them a few times over the years and always got rid of them. Too tame. Of course now that I'm getting older, more nostalgic and no longer in working bands I think there might be a use for one. @harddriver put one in front of my old Fender Brown and it definitely gave it some subtle bite without having to crank it all the way up.

To answer the question though I would say it's the same thing that makes me collect late 70s Distortion + pedals. Nostalgia. It was my first ever pedal when I was about 12 and I have a soft spot for them.

Because someone with the initials SRV used one.
I always thought they sucked along with all the copies, variants and kits

I must be weird. I’ve never owned an Ibanez tube screamer, just a million clones and variants. The closest thing I have to ann original I guess would be an Airis Aggressive Screamer which is a TS with an added Tight knob that can be turned all the way down for a basic TS. I got that when I decided to try a straight TS.

But I guess there’s always people who believe the original of anything is better than anything after. And throw in the old ones are to limited supply.

How much are they going for these days? With said chip?
If you want a TS on the cheap that is more clean boost/less color get a Bad Monkey.

Nah I don’t want it just got it in a trade. Technically I want it because of what dudes are willing to pay for it. Hell I might like it though. I miss my screamer though so maybe this will scratch that itch for me. I do have a bunch of stuff I’m going to put up for trade soon… maybe… we’ll see….

I think the chip matters if you use the boost as a dirt pedal. If you use it as a clean boost, I don't know how much it matters.
