Great pup, but a bit too fat sounding for a beefy LP. Does wonders for a thinner sounding guitar though...

Have one in my Hamer. Love the mids and yes it makes any fiddle bigger sounding!

I had one in my LP Standard Traditional Pro for about 48 hours last week and hated it. I was looking for a fat, darker pup with a lot of bottom end as the bridge in my LP was so bright and trebbly I had to turn the tone pot down to 5. I had heard the BBQ was it. I don't know how to describe the tone I got but it didn't mix well at all with the Classic 57 in the neck and was replaced with a SD Custom Custom which I'm totally in love with.

+1. I tried one in a Traditional Pro and a Classic.....didn't even last a day in either. I can't remember the details because it has been awhile. But I will say that I did not like it at all.

Wonderful, wonderful pickup....sounded great in any guitar in which I used it. However, best ever LP pickup I have used are the late 80s Bill Lawrence designed Gibson HB-L and HB-R = FANTASTIC pickups for Gibsons! I have them in an SG and LP.

So I must have had a bad one or installed it poorly, because I just put a new one into a Greco JS-55 LP and it's so thick and meaty... This is the first pickup where the GF has come in and asked what happened because that guitar sounds way better. Great pickup. Not noisy, just awesome.

Love it. I had in my Les Paul Standard for a few years. Sound fat, and lots of mids.

I replaced it with an Aldrich, which is also good, but part of me wants to go back to the BBQ. I think the Aldrich is crisper and sharper. . .but the BBQ is real fat and juicy.

I had to give this old thread a bump because I have been pickup swapping lately and I always seem to come back to either my Gibsons - Circuit board pups by Bill Lawrence, Burstbucker Pros and 57 Classics or Rio Grande BBQ/Texas which are amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The BBQ is such a thick, smooth, fat, chewy, warm, organic pickup, it is insanely good. I always come back to this pickup. In my LP Standard, it sounds massive, wide, huge and full, so balanced and tight. Not a harsh or bright thing about it! :) Perfecto! :)
The BBQ is my favorite humbucker - thick and complex, with just the right amount of smooth crunch!

Not sure why I got away from it to try so many others......

I consider the BBQ, the perfect pickup for an SG or LP...unless your LP is very naturally dark or tubby. My SG and LP are both naturally bright and resonant, plus light......and I always get the most compliments when I have the Rio's in my LP and SG.....even over the WCR GW or Gibson Circuitboard p'ups.

Let me add that I'm an full RG convert. It started with the Muy Grande singles in a Robin Ranger. Now I have a set of those in a strat. Then a BBQ in a LP, perfect match. Now I have a Muy Grande on the way for a tele. They have figured out how to do it all well.

Ya, they're great! I have a Muy Grande set in my Carvin and BBQ bucker's in a couple other guitars. I have yet to be disappointed with any of their pickups I've tried.

I now have a strat with a BBQ in the bridge and a Muy Grande in the neck. Not a great match when switching, but they both sound awesome. I love both of them

BBq/Texas used to be my favorite. Now? Late 80s Bill Lawrence designed Gibson HB-L and HB-R = FANTASTIC pickups for Gibsons!
