Man, can't believe its been ten years. It was cool to hear his riffing on main stream radio today.

RIp dime ... this is one of those rare anniv where it actually seems like 10yrs if you know what I mean.....I still can't believe randy rhoads has been gone 32yrs but dime is like yeah it does seem like 10

So, long story short. 1983 and Pantera is playing a high school prom. In between sets, i am in this chicks room having drinks. The chick I'm with is halfway thru giving me a b.j when her roommate come is. We rush out and pop into the next room where Darrell and e-Rex is hanging with a bunch a chicks. As soon as we walk in Darrell shouts "check it out! Marty has a boner!". Couldn't miss it, we were all wearing spandex. It was pointing at my bellybutton.

Loved the band and the material but let's face it, these dudes were burn outs. The way Anselmo describes Dime is exactly how someone describes an addict. With that type of consumption I wonder if his liver would have been toast by age 45. Can't take anything away from Dime and how great he was. Riffs for days and leads were off the charts. The worshiping of their hard ass lifestyle the way Anselmo describes it however, reminds me of being eternally 15 and wanting to get smashed on the weekend then talk about how badass we all were. As for his shpeel on Malmsteen, I'm not sure what he is talking about "soul". Soul comes in lots of forms, for Malmsteen, it came by way of the fury! That guy was on fire through Odyssey and even the Eclipse album. Anselmo just rubs me the wrong way. He's a drunk with zero vocal talent and he pissed his voice away long ago..

I wouldn't say zero talent but the guy is a bum no doubt

I didn't mind the earlier albums but far beyond driven was a pretty big insult to the human race as far as the shit that was coming out of Phil is concerned
fuck I was probably 15 at the time I heard that album and even then I was insulted at how retarded this guy was lol

I fucked your girlfriend last night, while you snored and drooled, i fucked your love...

Couldn't have said it better. Strength Beyond Strength, 25 Years, 5 Minutes Alone, all great tracks. I'm Broken and Shedding Skin are some of the most rib-cracking rhythms I've ever heard, over 25 years later. And The Badge and Planet Caravan were both good covers. I'm a fan for life, and have been since I first heard Dime do his thing. It was unlike anything I'd heard up until that time, and he's been a big influence ever since. RIP brother. We all miss you.

Pantera was the shit. My first real metal purchase besides metallica tapes. Got Vulgar and Urban Discipline at the same time. Bought the vulgar tab book and that's pretty much how I learned how to play the guitar 20 years ago.

I kinda stopped listening to them after FBD. I do that a lot with bands, just stop listening after a few releases, hard for me to deal with evolution sometimes.

Anyway I definitely owe me learning how to play metal to Dime. I was into metal before I heard Pantera but that tab book was a big milestone in my life. I loved that CD so much, I learned all of it apart from the solos and although it sounds sad, I haven't learned nor had the desire to learn a complete album on guitar since then.
