sad. I played his guitars ages ago at The Music Zoo’s original store in Great Neck, NY. Super cool paintjobs and the most highly figured birdseye necks I’ve ever seen. Very cool guitars!

And what a legacy he leaves behind.

Remember it well.
That store was tiny.
Tommy always had vintage Gibsons hanging behind the register

Now its a huge store and all the good used stuff is in the warehouse.

RIP Wayne, one of the earliest pioneers of the modded guitar world, I first met him in the mid '70s who worked on my Strats (combining Fender & Gibson)
I have family in Lake Arrowhead so Redlands was just down the mountain. I also knew Grover when he bought the company in '79 I believe, great builder.

That's an Amazing piece of history, I don't think I've ever seen the earliest Neck Plate since then, I actually forgot what it looked like "Awesome".
I've had Charvel's since '75 in one form or another and still love the 1-11/16 width, 12-16 radius, quarter-sewn, and wider neck & body pocket.

i moved to redlands in 89 so missed the 70s charvel years directly but old local player friends spoke of him doing work for them out of his garage and and that EVH used to pop by on occasion

love those neck dimensions too.

RIP Mr Charvel. Truly a pioneering legend for the shiznat this group is into. Will be dearly missed.

I donated to him after the fire. Thought it was the least I could do for someone who certainly impacted my life in such a big way.

I pounded survey stakes for 3 months in 100 degree heat to order a pointy in 1984. I played the frets off that guitar. Still have it.

Technically it’s a Jackson but the vibe was there. Mr. Charvel, I’m glad you were around to catch lightening in a bottle in those short years when that SoCal magic happened. RIP.
