Ronni Le Tekro Tone Attempt clip

I'm no expert on Le Tekro's tone, but I definitely like aspects of both Curt and Ralphie's tones in attempting to clone it...

To go along with Ralph's Ronni Le Tekro clip from this morning, here's mine. This is just a first attempt. Ronni has always had one of my favorite tones and I don't think I did it justice here but if you can, give me some suggestions for getting it closer. At some points it sounds like I have a wah wah in a fixed position like Schenker, but I don't. Also the Boss OD-1 is pretty scratchy. I think if I had a vintage Roland Tape Echo in line after it like Ronni that it might smooth that out a little.

Anyway, I'd like to use the standard Rig Talk disclaimer: Tons of mistakes, I don't know the riffs exactly, I'm just screwing around etc etc.

Ok, Ive been lsitening to this all morning lol! Im thinking that the extra kick from the Tape echo is what you are missing and It most definitely would smooth out the scratchyness. The Space Echo will also add more gain and squish to that sound and that in itself would most definetely tame some of scratchyness..... IMHO.

those have to be impossible to find these days....in mint condition..with a brand new tape...




i think ralph is right and i also think if the both of you double tracked the song you'd be there! plus you can each take a part and play the harmony lead at the end of the solo

Curt, I went home for lunch again and screwed around with the settings. i found that if I put the midrange up to much I started gettine more of that cracked wah sound. If you try it again tonight turn your mids down a hair and let me know what it does.

It's coming out October 27th at 10 am. Don't forget Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 on Nov 10th. Between these two games I'm set for the next 2 years

It's coming out October 27th at 10 am. Don't forget Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 on Nov 10th. Between these two games I'm set for the next 2 years

I used my old faithful Charvel from 1984. It has an old Duncan Custom in it. I went into the BF-2 Flanger then the OD-1 and then into my stock 1983 2204 JCM 800 into my Bogner cab with G12H30's. Mic'd with a vintage SM-57 into a vintage API mic preamp. I brought the mids way down on the amp from normally being cranked to about 11 o'clock but I think I need to bring them down even more.

I don't think putting 6550's in would help this get closer to Le Tekro. I think my low end in this clip and the single note stuff is very similar to Ronni's and I attribute that to that loosely tight EL-34 sag. As a matter of fact I would say Le Tekro's tone is like the poster boy tone for El-34's in a 2203 or 2204.

There are 5 versions of the Boss OD-1. I don't know which one I have I just know when I turn it on it is quite scratchy. between that and the Flanger the mids go crazy, but I hear extremely close characteristics of Ronni's tone. To me, it's to the point that a tape echo smoothing out the grit or a smoother sounding version of the OD-1 coupled with a real engineer in a real studio with it being recorded to warm sounding 2" analog tape and having an expert apply the effects. Well, I think it is entirely possible that it would be right there.

It always makes me crack up when really good players post these disclaimers. But not as much as the inevitable first post that says "You're not playing it right." even with said disclaimer in full view...

someone said 6550's I had a 212 fawn marshall 2204 from 77 the non cascaded one with a boss super overdrive and a Charvel MOdel 5 with the Jackson J95c p u that pretty much nailed that fixed crybaby position tone. cool clips no matter what. They both sound killer to me.

Im thinking that he mids lowered a bit will get you closer. With that said, to be honset with you I think that we are close enough as is. Hell Id record an album with the tone I got in my clip and be happy with it
