I love my Scumback BM75's but I do not want to pay 400 for two more.

I'm looking into doing the GB/V30 mix with my Friedman modded Marshall and although I love my Scumbacks I'm interested in just how much better that mix could be.

So who put there is doing the GB/V30 mix with their amps?

I would sell my Scumbacks or Trade but I'd want to do something straight up for 4 16ohm speakers.

Help me out!

Best thing to mix with V30 is the G12H 70th Anniversary (G12H30)
As stated earlier in another thread, the GB will get lost at 97 dB against the 100 db Vintage 30
Avatar will sell you a quad of that mix for *edited, PM me for price, but very cheap* (I inquired about that just last week)

Damn! That's great news man! I never thought of that combo before. How do the 30s compare to GB's?

The G12H 70th as described by Avatar:

"The G12H30 70th Year Anniversary Special has real nice mids and highs and a warm overdrive BUT an unbelievably rich, deep low end. When the G12H30's are mixed with Vintage 30's (above) the result is a wonderful, real wide response, perfect bass, mids, and highs."

Tighter bass, mids more even, more presence than the Greenback, more edge, less smooth

I'm a bit reluctant as I've never been the biggest fan of V30's. Also, I hated the H75 when I used it as it took all of my highs. It's a 50oz magnet like the 12H30

You definately will not lose highs with an Anniversary H30. It's the brightest speaker Celestion makes IMO. I love them with V30's.

You're talking about the Heritage right?
If so, this one is similar to the G12H 70th, although a bit smoother apparently
I don't see your highs disappearing at all with V30s and G12H30
If you want to stick to 35 oz magnets for cheap, I'd do a Greenback and T75 mix

The Creambacks seem popular. The G12m-65 has been out for a while, but some question as to consistency. The G12h-75 is a more recent release and the few reviews are very favorable. There's also a newer V30 modeled speaker as well, but I've heard nothing about them.

I had a new Mesa 2x12 cab with fresh V30's and it sounded like shit. The V30's were not broken in. I now have a mid 90's Recto 2x12 and it sounds freaking awesome. Broken in Mesa V30's RULE.

The Creambacks don't get cheaper than 150$ a pop though, so might as well stick to Scumbacks
Can you elaborate on consistency please? I'm interested to know

No, I hated the Scumback H75. It did not blend well at all with my BM75. All the highs were taken away and too much bass was on tap. The M75 was more mellow and it smoothed out things but took away aggression.

The only Scumbacks I've liked are my BM75's but as far as comparisons go, they're like an old Blackback which is somewhat more aggressive.

In looking for the following in a blended pair:

Tight, thunderous lows
Aggressive mids
Smooth yet articate highs.

The only GB/V30 mix that I've heard is the PhilX BE100 clip.

I can't find anything with G12H30's being blended with V30's.

I think it was this thread...

Here's a comparison of the G12m-65 and a M75.

I haven't heard the G12h-75 yet. Supposed to be more and tighter low end and more highs that the G12m-65. Lots of modern options for vintage type speakers these days.

I loved the Creamback in that clip.

I'm really digging Creamback G12M-65's with my 20th Shiva. Very wide tonal range with NO ice pick highs. With a Les Paul, they bulldoze buildings.

In the interests of full disclosure: yes, I have been drinking. ;)

Imo...if tou like the warmth of scumbacks you will not like v30's...especially with a high gain marshall.
V30's are brighter and more edgy/bitey sounding to me. They work great with darker amps like bogner xtc or diezels....for marshall tones i would stick with some type of GB...creambacks get good reviews. I really like my scumbacks and will pay the higer price for them.

I'm at work. I need a drink.

What are you having?

Guess the whole Creamback quality control issue isn't resolved yet
That's what happens when you build speakers "by hand" in England... send that production to China!

Have you considered mixing the GBs with a GT-75? I like that combo better than the V30/H30 mix or the GB with a V30. The GT-75s add the upper and lower end most GB type of speakers are missing. Obviously the GBs add back the mids the 75s are missing. I don't like either speaker by themselves but mixed in the cab, they are fairly good.

That's the thing. I'm not a mixed speaker guy so this is a big leap for me to consider.

I'd love to try a cab with the GB/V30 blend but I don't know of anyone who has those speakers mixed. I've yet to even try my amp with V30's.

Played it with GB through a TV cab while it was cool, it needed more aggression and bite. Could also be that a TV cab is four inches taller and makes the low end extremely dominant.

I hate buying blind so that's where I'm at.

I have 2 combinations that I have used for a long time,, Vet30 orV30/ET65s or V30/H75 Scum, but I am funny about stuff like that, I find a great combination and I stick with it forever, that being said I would like to try Creambacks (the speaker   )
And BTW, I did not know we were supposed to be drinking,,,sorry
