You know what the funny thing is? The times when I had my amps damaged were the times when they were packed by UPS or FedEx, because the way they pack amps is foolish or at least the way I've seen them packing amp. You DONT pack amps using peanut foam.

You can you just have to do it right, you have to literally add so much you've got the JAM it in and compress it so it takes out all the space, but I hear ya man... I don't think it matters how good you pack stuff they can break it, I've even seen someone talking about using that chemically expanding foam, where you wrap the amp in plastic tape it super good, and then put it in the box and dump in the expanding foam lol...

I shipped out a Les Paul today via UPS to PA for about $40. Shipping from east coast (SC). I shipped from work (we have a pickup). Last time I sent a head through the UPS Store and they charged about $25 just to drop it off. I had it properly packed and ready to go. All they did was punch in some info and slap a sticker on it. I had to cover that since the winner of my auction (eBay) was quoted for a lower rate. I wasn't about to ask for more money. I should have had that straight before listing anyway. UPS Store? Never again.

You are right once you get to a certain size, the price goes insane.
I had people from around the world requesting quotes on the LP (Israel, Germany, Italy, Australia) and the shipping overseas was usually in the $500 range. USPS wouldn't even take the box since it measured 48 inches in length and they would only take up to 46 inches (it's worth mentioning that they don't have that restriction for domestic and Canada shipping). I kept getting the same response that these people had purchased guitars and had them shipped to their respective countries for $100-150. I felt like I was missing something here since it was everyone claiming the same thing. Next time I won't even offer worldwide shipping on something large like that.
