I don't recall any actual satanic bits in there, which I think is mostly things people read into them that wanted to see that.

Hell Awaits song and lyrics.

Sure, that's the kind of thing I was referring to. It mostly just sounds like some dudes D&D session written up from the time. I dunno. It doesn't seem like some kind of serious call to Satan or anything. Just kind of goofy and intended to piss off parents, which they definitely did a good job of. Everything in earlier Slayer reminds me of playing Diablo in the mid-90s, though obviously any influence would be the other way around. We aren't talking Venom lyrics here for actual pro-Satan messages! ;)

When you have fan reactions like this, you have definitely done something good in your life (1m42s):

ICONIC BAND

It's about ten years too late, IMO. I predict the 'last tour' tour to continue on into the next decade and then they suddenly find themselves refreshed. (see Rolling Stones, Scorpions, Kiss, et al.)

Exodus FTW! Gary’s skills were wasted playing with slayer.

Finally. I realize they are respected but not really sure why. Weak satanic lyrics and vocals combined with Turkey fight solos. Never understood the allure.

Yep! Good riddance to a very mediocre band. Their demise could have happened a long time ago.

Never been a fan...in fact, when I was a young lad playing in my first bands, a drummer told me I sounded like KK when I soloed...I was DEEPLY offended being an LA cock rock type...LOL

Will definitely go see this last tour. Haven't bought an album since divine, but man they were brutal before there was brutal. There's a reason they're held in high esteem by their contemporaries. Definitely a band that should be seen live.

Nice clickbait just to talk shit about the band. They are doing a farewell tour and then they will stop touring. whatever dude.
Precise and poignant.

Slayer is probably as much of a "satanic" group as were Motley Crue when they recorded Shout at the Devil. It was a theme to bring attention to the band but so much of it (as I already mentioned) was to bring attention to the downfalls and dirty side of religion, power, and war so no biggie there. I mean, I don't mind the lyrics and find them at times more creative than talking about chicks and good times. (though I like that too! ) I think a lot of the complaints come from "religious" people who are offended by anything that takes Christ or the trinity for granted.

Again, why the fuck are you guys worrying about whether it's satanic or not? Who fucking cares? What's the big deal? If all the songs were about Darth Vader it wouldn't be any more or less "evil" or "bad". Satan, like Darth Vader, is a fictional character. I'm not sure why I'm reading posts by grown men in this forum talking about "Oh...it's satanic!!!" It shouldn't even be brought up. It matters THAT little.

Slayer had integrity like the Ramones, ACDC, Motorhead nothing will take that away .

I learned all of "Show no mercy" when it came out. Same for the next several albums. These were some of the heaviest things to listen to back then.

Kerry borrowed my JCM800KK to play the Dime tribute at Ozzfest(it was a fly-in for him). Got pics of him signing it at the rehearsal the day before at Vinnys, and of him on stage with it. Still a big deal to me to have that head in my stable. A great amp, infused with his angry style...And a great memory.

There is no show like a Slayer show.

Slayer is one of my favorite bands.
Wish they would put out one more album.

The real shock for me was Raining Blood when it came out. It was so different than everything else. So raw, so fast, so brutal. Awesome !!

I could care less about the satanism.... other than it's obviously a completely over played non creative shtick to try and sell a band because their music sucks.

In 1986 Metallica released the masterpiece known as Master of Puppets. Then Slayer made them look like pussies with Reign in Blood later that year. That record shocked the underground metal scene, and even shocked Slayer fans used to their first two records, like me. Like them or not, their influence is easily in the same company as Sabbath, Priest, Maiden, Metallica. That is not the legacy of a "mediocre" band lol.

The musical landscape is littered with musicians influenced by mediocre bands. I could give two shits less who they influenced.
