My Taurus is class D and destroys. Crazy the power you can get from such a lightweight amp
That's why I went with a rack. Everything has wheels. That's an awesome setup you got there. The classic SVT's are hard to beat but damn are they heavy.
I agree the 8x10 is awesome but for ease of transportation I‘m happy with the AguilarsThat's why I went with a rack. Everything has wheels.
That said, with the IEM rig and the cable snakes for everyone else, my rack is easily over 200 lbs. I feel like a monster when I deadlift it by myself into the trailer or on stage. My 8x10 is actually easier to move by a long shot. Then again, that is partially because my 8x10 has guitar cab handles on the bottom to make stairs really easy for 2 people. The 8x10 rocks; nobody wants to help move the box.
That is what I use for my recordings. Love the Tech 21 stuff!!I play bass and have played in bands, although by no means do I consider myself a real bassist. I am not picky when it comes to amps, but I pretty much have to have a Tech 21 Sansamp Bass DI...that's pretty much my "I can get it done if I have this" pedal.
Lifting an SVT up on top of the 810 definitely requires proper form haha.Thats ok, I’m a manly man ?
GK just released some rb legacy amps that seem aimed at capturing the 400/800rb vibe but with modern tech and weight.+1 on the 400RB, that was my baby with an Ampeg 4x10 for quite some time (friend borrowed it and broke it, that's another story). Used that with the Tech21 VT Bass pedal and was totally happy given that I don't play enough. No idea what GK has for current models though, assuming there is something out there better now. Don't sleep on the SansAmp stuff, great cheap options. I would get Darkglass stuff if I wasn't broke, but what can you do, lol
I have a Mark IV but I would be scared to use it for bass. I dont know why. Jo Beth form Bolt Thrower used a JCM800 for a bit. My buddy in Germany got a mesa bass head and cab for a couple hundred bucks. I never have luck like that.I love amps that can do double duty too. Mesa mark Iva is a great bass amp. Along with an ampeg v4. Switch out 3 coupling caps on the v4 if you are going to use it for bass more than guitar, effectively switching the coupling caps turns it into a v4b.
Most of the guitar amps I've run a bass through sound great. Particularly old Marshalls. The problem is volume/headroom. If you don't need to be loud or you don't mind sounding like Lemmy, you're golden. But otherwise it's a struggle without an amp with a lot of power.I love amps that can do double duty too. I should have mentioned running them through a bass cab, unless your guitar cab has evm12ls.Most of the guitar amps I've run a bass through sound great. Particularly old Marshalls. And best to use a dedicated bass cab because the cone excursion from the bass frequencies can damage normal guitar speakers at loud volumes. Generally ok at low volumes though it makes me nervous.
If you go with the Mesa or another rig, you can still get the GK sound via their pedal format Plex preamp.I've never played one, read favorable feedback from other GK fans.I knew a guy when I was an early teenager that went to a local music store and got store credit. He went from a cheap pawn shop bass and peavey to a GK400, a huge cab and a new bass. He sounded amazing like night and day difference. Always loved the GK sound.
I got a buddy who has played in a couple punk bands locally for most of our adult lives and he has a fender bassman but he started grabbing the old peavey heads (like pre mark III heads) and sounds great.
Dude has been 100% a bass player his whole life and while I'm technically a better player, he sounds so much better. He can play a shitty Ramones type progression but his rhythm and finger tone is damn solid. Like each note is perfect in the amount of force he hits the note and the rhythm. I don't know if that makes sense but I can always hear the difference in a bass player and a guitarist who happens to play bass.
The spector performer bass I ordered should show up Monday. I'm excited. I may try to talk my buddy in Germany into selling me his Mesa bass 400+. He has offered in the past but I turned it down. I think he paid 200 for the head and cab. Even with astronomical shipping I would probably still make out pretty good after his profit and shipping.
