So does the Randall Thrasher equal the Fortin Natas?

It would be interesting to hear a side by side comparison of Natas vs Thrasher and/or Satan. I'm curious how large or small the audible difference is. Maybe one day someone out there will do a comparison vid or clip.

There is no way the randall stuff even if the same circuit could sound the same with chinese transformers etc...

Just because something is made in China doesn't mean it can't sound great. The transformers are clones of the custom winds that were used in the Natas.

Clones made of inferior metals.

I'm tired of this debate as those who chime in have almost NEVER done any testing at all on Chinese iron versus American made or German made iron.

They sound different and it's mostly because of the impure metals used.

China used lead in fn baby toys! What makes you think the "clone" transformer is even close in terms of quality parts?

All of this was said about the mts series transformers and swapping them for mercury was night and day...

I dunno man. I think mike was saying that finding a company he could put faith in to build the trannys without compromising integrity was one of the most difficult aspects of the project. Hearing tales of his unwavering standards, I believe it.

I asked a guy I know that reps for Randall who went to NAMM and said the amps are not even close in sound. I don't know personally but I can relay what he told me.

Refreshing honesty, but not exactly doing a bang up job as a Randall Rep, lol

He works at a Randall dealer he's a not rep, my bad. But he's an honest guy. His words were. "the thrasher sounds great, it's a really strong metal and hard rock amp but after trying the Satan, I can say there's worlds of difference in the tone. The Satan is a vastly superior amplifier, I hope that helps".

Oh, I thought you were comparing Thrasher <> NATAS
I had a feeling Satan would be more my cup of tea- Ola has delivered great tones over the years. I seriously can't get over that name though- makes me feel like I would have a curse put on me

America has been fucking itself in the ass for decades on manufacturing and now it's over.Costs of doing business here are too high for Joe Blow consumer. They lost it with the steel industry, then automobiles, then electronics. Game over.

Has anyone been able to compare the Thrasher to the Natas?

I was actually told by a few people with some knowledge of the Randall/Fortin stuff that the Satan actually sounds more like the Natas than the Thrasher. I can't confirm that tho.

I am probably one of the few that has owned both. No, they do not sound the same. The Thrasher does its own thing. The Satan will be closer to the Natas. But, as half the price, you cannot expect them to sound identical now can you? I found the Thrasher to sound a hell of a lot like a VHT D120, if that helps.

Yeah i am not expecting them to sound the same at all (hand made vs chinese mass production, materials etc).
I'm guessing the Satan is the Natas design.
Early last year my name came up on the Fortin list and he said this will be the last Natas he builds "since he sold the design to Randall".

I don't know, some of the jet city/Soldano hotrod comparisons sounded pretty close, I think its more on reliability and qc that will be the difference more so then tone.

That's why i'm patiently waiting for them to pop up in Australia (for warranty).Theres been a few nights after some beers i've almost pulled the trigger on one via ebay!
That's the great thing about the newer wave of amps (like my Rhodes) they all have global power selections (for us Aussies!)

Mikes from Canada, so the Natas isn't US made either....

All I know is that the thrasher is possibly the best live brutal metal tone I've ever heard. Would love to get one at some point

If I'm not mistaken both the Trasher and the Satan share 'genes' of the Natas. Ola's own (Fortin made) Satan is a customized Natas, so it will sound different than the Natas anyway.

FWIW, I didn't like the Natas proto when I played it. I love my Thrasher. Killer amp at a great price.

How does the Thrasher compare to your Mesa Triple?

im currently trying to decide on a Mesa Triple, Roadster or Satan/Thrasher. I play mostly Metallica, 5 Finger Death Punch, etc. I like a dark deep growly wall of sound. i dont like the thin type distortion sound.

Thanks

I know this question was directed at mhenson42, but a Rectifier and Thrasher sound nothing alike. The midrange, response, negative feedback, and gain staging are worlds apart.
