So i heard/saw a Diezel Herbert finally

A Diezel head not cutting through the mix is almost undoubtedly user error. that mid cut get abused too often scooping out the fundamental guitar frequencies: midrange.

the easiest way to disappear in the mix is to scoop your mids.

In fact in my experience there are few guitarists that understand what a guitar should be adding to the mix frequency wise. The sound that makes you tremble in your bedroom almost certainly contains frequencies that are not only unnecessary to use live but will also have you stepping all over each others instruments. listening to the guitar alone is not representative of the guitar once onstage with the other instruments fighting for room. Its always been pretty remarkable to me comparing the guitar sounds before and after at sound checks. once the sound engineer I work with makes his onstage amp tweaks, the amps when played alone sound a tad thin and a little less crisp but once the band is playing its like magic, slicing right through with authority. the same as your mix on your albums.

the largest offender is bass. I have heard so many guys set their amps to a bass response that allows absolutely no room for the bassist its a crime. might as well let the guy stay home that playing bass for you!

IMO if you know how to leave room for everyone in the band frequency wise you can get ANY amp (within reason) to cut the way you want AND have a total band sound that is clearer and more articulate.

And plus one of the low mid grind of the Diezels, Ive always been a low mid guy and the Diezel line delivers in spades. Ill never sell mine, ever!

As for the 5150, IMO its the worst amp I have ever heard. my ears have a strong dislike for crossover distortion. If crossover distortion was what I did like I have a much better sounding amp purposefully under biased to 12ma for crossover rather than use that amp made of the most sub par parts available and full of ribbon cables.

It never fails, any negative criticism of an expensive amp brings out the defensive butthurt fanboi's like clockwork. And they always assume the critics can't afford one. lolz

Sounds like a 15 yr old HCAF statement right here. Lol.

Looking at the gear in your signature, I can understand why you said that. It's all good.

I really wanted one bad. But just couldnt justify spending the 4K on one. I dont tour. I dont Gig. I just play in a garage band with my friends. Do I want one? You bet your ass. But for what we do, I drew the line at 2K for a amp.
Went thru a bunch of them around that price range. Flipping them if i didnt like them or get bored.
I finally realized that for what I LIKE TO PLAY and what suits ME the best is the ENGL tone. I love it. Not saying its worse or better then that Diezel(I STILL WANT A HERBERT!)
But reality slapped me in the face and brang me back to earth. (UNTIL I WIN THE LOTTERY)
Then I will be 3 or 4 Herberts and use them as paper weights!
What works for you .........
works for you.

I honestly think it's 100% true, because people defend their gear like it's their mom or girlfriend. But it's all good!

Your right on that. But I guess its what knowing and being comfortable with what you have.
If you like the 5150 and it serves your needs than COOL!
If you like a Fender Blues Deville and think its YOUR god tone.....SWEEEEET! :D
I wont slam someone elses gear just for the sake I dont like it or dont think its worth the money.
I saw many people play $3000.00 rigs and sound like shit.
But.......HEY they were happy playing.
To me thats what its about. Not pitting amps and gear against something else but enjoying playing.
Personally, I have never heard a Herbert in person only on clips. And that is what I would call my GOD TONE!

Different strokes for folks I guess....
Its only gear. Not a pissing contest. ;)

imho ill make this simple - ill never own a diezel in my lifetime. because of 2 reasons: i think even $3,000 used for one is stupid. and B: i know what i heard - definately not worth its price. glad you like it though - they are spoken around here very well. it was awsome to finally get to hear one in real life both on stage tone AND through a PA mix/band mix live.

you are allowed to have your opinions on 5150's. i think EVERYONE hates them by the way i read posts here on the forum. but at that point you are shit talking. i love my amplifier to death and i would actually LOVE to put it against some of the amplifiers here on the forum. i think people would love it. it has been road worthy, never failed me live, its been gigged weekly for many years, went through hell at band practices with no AC, and it still is going strong. ribbon cables? i could care less if it had string in it. it sounds good and has been reliable and doesnt require anything else - i've never had a problem with it at all.

as for the crossover distortion - bias them properly. the 5150 combos dont have the problem - never have. not once did i ever say diezel was the worst amplifier i ever heard. but i will gladly say it sounded great - but not $4,600 great. it sounded $2000 great at most. as far as where it sits? well think about it for a second - that JCM900 was a low gain that was boosted to give more gain/umph and is also high mid based amplifier. i was laughing my ass off whenever the sound guy was having problems dialing in the diezel in the mix - he couldnt get it to settle right at all through the first 2 songs. this was a huge outdoor festival and this was easily a $15,000 PA system. like i said before i WANTED to like it as much as everyone loves it, but i guess you have to really be careful where you play it, what you boost it with, what mics you use, how you set it up, etc.

with brads comment - yeah bro i can definately tell it has its own thing going on with the crunch and clean channels. i had never heard anything like it before myself. it was still cool to see one.

rock on guys.

hmmm seems like you felt i was attacking your opinion of the 5150 which is not the case, to each their own is my motto.

My opinion of the construction is also biased having dozens of them fail on the road with acts I tech for.

I'm not shit talking at all, someone responded about their feeling on that particular amp and I voiced my own which happen to be negative, sorry if it came off that way, but there is no inflection on a message board.

rock on!

It's like saying I watched somebody drive a ferrari and it looked like that car was a big pos. I would never buy one because it looked like it was slow and handled like shit.
I mean really how would you really know if you didn't drive it, how can you really judge that.

damn that sounds sick!!!!!!

thats by far the best FJA modded amplifier ive ever heard to be honest. usually ive never been a fan to his work but much much respect to that clip dude that was sick

because its not a 128kb/s soundclip on youtube - its an infinite quality real life stand there in front of it listen to the tone of the amplifier quality realism that youtube doesnt have.

and i can judge it pretty well doing this. i dont have to play every single person's amplifier or gear to know if it sucks or not. i have ears and can listen pretty well. im 100% confident in what i heard versus what i explained

as for your car statement - i havent ever heard anyone call a ferrari a POS. let me know when you do though :D
