These stories make me very glad I dig my production amps, most available at big box music stores: Vox, Engl, Fender, Mesa, Marshall, TC Electronic, ...Bose![]()
IMO, if I can't find something in standard production amps/gear that I can use, I'm doing something wrong, or I got the wrong amp, still my issue, not the gear's. YMMV
There is something to be said for your point of view, it really depends on what you are looking for.
I know what I want out of an amp and know I can get close but not all the way with stock mass produced gear.
"Booteek" requires more knowledge and effort from the buyer to avoid being burned, you are right it happens too often. IMO the effort is worth the results. There are trustworthy people in the "booteek" amp world


Regarding customer service, I doubt many manufactures will give you the support Dave Friedman, Brad King, or Brian from BFG will. I have dealt with these guys with no issues or hassles. Dave helped me with an amp he modded that I bought 3rd hand and few years after he modded it. Try that with any of the big box stores or the manufactures they represent.
