So was it?

It seems logical that wass the direction they were looking to go, then again I have very little knowledge of the 2210 platform other than look for a late 80s version.

Maybe. The Silver anniversary amp also utilized diodes in the gain section.

no the diode trick has been around a long time. They didnt really go for the High Gain it just had more than the usual gain. Its a cheap and inexpensive way of getting a little grind. Most modern amp builders use it as an option that you can turn on or off.

My '88 2210 was my main amp from 88-2001 and I loved it. I don't think it sounded anything like the HG Jose I had for a while.

Definately soundwise close to a Jose. The overall tone was close but my 2205 didn't have any bottom at all. We always toyed with the idea of adding a resonance control and I bet you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. At one point we compared a Cameron Jose to the 2205 and 2210 and they were not too far off. Jose still won but wasn't light years difference at all.

The 2210 was Richie Kotzen's favorite Marshall for a long time.

That surprises me. I haven't actually A/B'ed my Cameron's against my 2210, but I've played them back to back and my view is that the Cameron's totally killed the 2210. Everything about the Cameron's/Fortin Cali just sounded bigger and better.

The 2210 is no slouch in its own right though. They are killer amps.
