Yeah i think Warren was AWFUL in the Snake..didn't seem to want to learn any solos and he isn't the best improviser in the world (even he admits that)

Yeah, he looks lost. It is almost like a "man, this is not really me" type thing going on. It is amazing how a person can be a "rock guitarist" but doesn't typically translate when you see a guy switch bands. Sometimes it works but the chemistry between the originals is how the band got there in the first place.

That's a huge point right there. It can work sometimes if the guy is a gun for hire and more or less learns the parts and just squeezes in his own style but coming completely with your own thing hardly ever works. Take Slash out of context of Guns or his own work and sometimes it is a rambling mess. Tons of guys are like that. Warren here shows that too. His style is too laid back over the chords and riffs in those songs. RATT is his thing... Lynch would probably have been a better fit if they were going in that sort of blues vein.

I just remember when Warren was on That Metal Show. Talk about about sucking. He looked scarred to death

This is the Warren I remember.
Oozing confidence.

Yeah, that's a cool tune....except for the closeup of the Blotz licking his lips.. :bleh:

Definitely agree that Warren's "improvised" solo fit pretty well in Love Ain't No Stranger but then again, that's a pretty iconic solo off that album....he could have at least thrown in the lead break before going off on his own deal.

I've always considered Warren's lead work to be more smooth and slippery like rather than aggressive so yeah, I guess he figured no need to even bother trying to emulate Sykes.

It must have been a dark time after DC gave JS the walking papers. He had good success with Vai..

The dude has a guitar player habit for sure..

This was around the time Coverdale's voice started going south. I first noticed that screechy, raspy delivery around the time of 1993's Coverdale/Page which I thought was a great album. However Coverdales voice sounded like Kim Carnes slept in his mouth.

LOL

Man, I think some of you guys are overly critical. DeMartini sounded fine to me. (I’m at the end of Is This Love.) He sounds really good to me on the older WS tunes, which are more to his style. He’s miles better than Vandenburg here, and I’m a Vandenburg fan, mainly of his solo albums. It’s Coverdale who’s committing the biggest crime here. His voice is shot, and he knows it. He’s skipping as much singing as possible.

It isn't so much the playing, it is the fact that it doesn't fit most of the tunes. Is this Love, he just sort of blues rocks out a jam. It's awesome playing as usual but it doesn't fit at all. Doesn't follow the music. He sort of has this style where he hangs notes and falls a bit behind the beat then catches up etc.. doesn't work at all and just sounds off. It's a "swing" vibe that doesn't work here apart from a few spots. But yeah, Coverdale sucks here no question. $$ covering divorce lawyer costs. Drumming is fantastic though.

I think I read an interview about it and he said he hated it .. he wasn't allowed to play any of his songs/solo (although he did slip in something from the 1997 album) and isn't really a jammer so was lost

That's strange, I wonder why they wouldn't allow him to play whatever the hell he wanted

Guaranteed they would have had to pay the RATT Enterprise money for using the songs, etc. Damn shame but I'm sure that was the case.

A bit of a side note. I saw Whitesnake a few years ago (unfortunately Aldrich had left already) and it was good, not great. One hilarious thing that happened was that the P.A. cutout for like 10 full seconds. Well obviously in this day and age with ear monitors, the band can be oblivious while the crowd suffers. Sound cuts out to us and all you can hear is the snare drum popping, traffic on the highway nearby, people coughing, etc. Meanwhile, they are still jamming out, posing, making rock star moves but is completely silent. It was the weirdest experience. They eventually saw our faces of confusion and realized what happened. LOL

I don't think you really are a Vandenberg fan. A fan would at least know how to write his name... ;)

I work in Missile Defense. There are several documents I work that refer to the air force base. I guess I’m used to spelling it the other way.

If that was 94 Id hate to hear it now.
I've seen them in in 2008 and 2011; it was bad. Real bad. Joel Hoekstra's playing and almost annoyingly happy smile saved some, but DC was better off singing for some Norwegian cvlt band in the early 90's. Shot. to. hell.

Retardedly shitless band in the first place, total suck machine. Little boy/chick music, what do you expect?

I saw them probably 5-6 years ago (with Joel Hoekstra and Reb Beach on guitars) and I loved the shit out of it. Coverdale's voice was definitely more in the cookie monster metal vein than it used to be but I thought he still sounded great; it actually fit in my opinion.
