My EMGs must be broken, since they don't make these Strats sound identical.

Regardless, it's not meant to be a smart assed comment - simply some comedic relief in yet another thread here that has digressed into a smouldering pile of turds.
I have never used EMG humbuckers, and maybe they're a different can of worms. All I am saying is the EMG single coils most certainly still allow some of the guitar's character to colour the overall tone.
Now I'll let the lynch mob get back to bashing people for spending their money on what they choose to spend their money on.
