Just watched the Video on this page and I must say: THIS SUCKS!!! Shooting animals for fun or as a sport is not fun by far.

In Md if you have any exit in the house including your bedroom window between you and a person breaking in then you dont have the right to shoot. There is a lady in jail for the last few years because she had a restraining order against her ex husband for abuse and he threatened her and went to her house, kicked in the front door and bedroom door , he had a gun and she defended herself shooting and killing him. It caused a big uproar here because there was a history of police reports with him beating her. There have been other ones where the home owner was not charged. We have a screwed up state. I am not running out of my house if someone breaks in.

If you have a Fla lic and live in Ga you dont have to go back to Fla to get a CCP. You can get it in the mail. I think it is $178 I was going to get one from Fla cuase once im out of Md I can wear a gun. I hunt in Va and go to W Va a lot and was planning on doing this. I know others that have done this thats why I know about it. You do have to take a Hand gun class.

The post above about the % I read in a gun magazine. The Numbers might be a little off but it is still a big difference and gets the point across.

If I used non lethal rounds in my shotgun on some bad guy breaking in he could sue and take my house and everything I own in Md. Again our state sucks for guns....not as bad a Ca....yet!

YIKES!! a CCP is 178.00 in Fla? thats ridiculous. In Alabama they are 60 bucks initially, renewable for 38.00

Good for 39 states.

Get your self a Remington 870 pump shotgun or similar brand. The sound of a pump shotgun cocking is loud and will intimidate just about anyone. Everybody knows that sound and by doing that can end a situation quickly, if not your ready.

This always cracks me up.

Why would you leave your home defense weapon unloaded? It needs to be ready to go with the exception of a safety. The time you spend shucking that shotgun is probably just long enough for the bad guy to be blowing your guts all over your own house with his gun that was ready to go. It can also help him identify your location.

Yes, they are shooting the birds for sport, and what you don't see in the video is the birds being gathered up and taken home to be cleaned and eaten. You have to kill to live, we just don't realize that anymore because we buy everything already dead in a supermarket....

much like the loss of innosence you feel now,...it would be magnified a million fold if you kill someone,..justified or not,..talk to anyone who has ever killed anyone face to face confrontation,..it is a burden you will carry with you forever,...all of them regret doing it,...despite the gung-ho attitude here,...you did the proper thing,..you listened to your gut instinct,....and you best weapon was your dog!,..the dog is what stopped the intruder,...if he was gonna break in the dog stopped him in his tracks with his barking,...(what kinda a dog is it?).....it sucks to no longer feel safe in your own home,...do what ya think ya must,...follow your gut, and dont do anything rash/stupid,..just like ya did on the night of the incident,...and before any of the rush limbaugh fans label me a liberal,...i have a 157lbs rotty named pete (and he's intact)dam i love rottys!,..i would never own any other bread!,...and a colt 357 revolver,..6" barrel,..will never jam,..i have super soft hallow points that will leave a 6" exit wound,...(i figure in the middle of the night i will be groggy and my aim might be off,...) it's always loaded, and is next to my bed,....i think a shot gun is harder to handle than a hand gun,..

As far as laws go, I liked this one when I lived in Florida:

The Florida law provides that a person, not themselves engaged in an unlawful activity, who is attacked in a place where they have the legal right to be (i.e. a dwelling, residence, occupied vehicle or public place) does not have an obligation to retreat and may meet force with matching comparable force, including deadly force, if he or she reasonably believes it is necessary to do so to prevent death or great bodily harm to him/herself or to another person or to prevent a forcible felony. So if someone comes into your house with a weapon you pretty much have open license to take them out by law. The way it should be IMO.

That is pretty much the same in Oklahoma. Here it's actually called the MAKE MY DAY LAW. Basically says, if you go onto someone else's property, armed and conceivably there to do harm, the homeowner is within his rights to end you.

Personally, I keep a nightstick by the bed and a legally sawed down riot-style 12 gauge within reach.
I consider it safer and more intimidating. Less likely to be turned around on you by an assailant than a handgun due to the length advantage.

I would do what is necessary to protect my family, but I certainly hope I am never placed in a situation where it's necessary to harm someone.

There is only one thing, and one thing only, that I envy the residents of the USA... The right to hold a gun and pull it on anyone entering your property in a threatening manner.

I keep a big knife by the bed, but if I actually used it on a burglar, I would get sent to prison.

In Finland, if you even a pulled a knife on the burglar who has already entered your house, the burglar could sue you and win the case...

No one wants to kill anyone, and it's a last option that would be exercised, but in the worst situation it may be the only option to preserve innocent lives. You are right though, that having to live with killing someone can be tough to deal with. But with that, it's not an excuse to not have proper protection in the home.

Exercising our right of the 2nd amendment is more important than most people think, and some take it for granted. The more people that exercise that right, the harder it is for the wackos on the far left to try and remove that right from us.

Probably for hunting purposes, I`ve actually had both a H&K AG-3 and an MP-5 at home when I was in the reserves. (Home defense forces). The irony is that most of the people killed by gunfire in Norway (hardly none but gang members and crooks killing crooks, and they are left out) are spouses of members of the home defense forces.

As of now, my maniacal grin, 6'4" frame, and a gleaming axe in the window has to do the trick

If it came down to my life or a criminal who was breaking into my home, that is an easy decision to make. I don't WANT to kill anyone, but it is better than the alternative. I am sure it will stick with you for life, but I can't imagine thinking you made the wrong choice in that situation.

Even protective dogs are a pretty sorry defense against a criminal. Dogs have to be seriously trained to be any sort of real protection, otherwise they are an alarm at best. I would never trust my life to one.

Some people take the 2nd amendment for granted? More like most. Gun owners are not even a majority in the US and out of the minority that own guns how many people actually learn how to properly use one?

I believe the original story was the dog let him know someone was there .... the person still came to the door regardless of the dog barking.

I delivered pizza in the 80's for a little more than a year .... I have absolutely no fear of any dog of any size. It would not stop me in any way, it may slow me down from hurting you or your family.

I have never felt bad about hurting someone physically that have endangered someone I love .... I do not think I would feel bad about killing them either. I do not consider humans any more special than any other life or life sacred at all. At one time I did .... that is no longer the case for me.

..... this is easy to say as a person who has never killed anyone. But I have many family members who have killed face to face in war. None of them felt bad about killing people that were doing there best to do this to them.
