I chatted with Kyle Rhodes about it and he recommended creamback 75s mixed with redbacks for bite and V30s/redbacks for something more smooth

80s g12-65

I have a Bogner 212 with a vintage 30 and creamback, amazing cab, usually hate vintage 3os by themselves, but together in this 212 it’s great.

Early 80s g12t-75 are also good

Greenbacks

I hate dark and avoided Redbacks for the longest time because it thought they’d be too dark from all the comparison clips I watched.

turns out 4 Rebacks is my favorite! I like it even more than 2 mixed with v30s or H75s. Definitely not too dark. My v30/H75 cab was my prior favorite…it is a little brighter but doesn’t have the girth and punch of 4 redbacks. I do keep a cab with v30/redbacks just for different flavor, but I don’t play as much. I do like playing my redback cab together with my Fryette Fane F70 cab, so I’d imagine those Fanes would mix well with Redbacks in a single cab.

Rick from Wizard recommended Redback/Cream 90 mix…. Never tried that when I had the 90s as I thought it would be too dark/smooth.
I am in a similar position. I have a Splawn 412 with Redbacks/V30s and love it. I was going to do my Bogner 412 Redbacks/V30s as well but now I am thinking Redbacks/H75s or 4 Redbacks! Are you still liking the Redbacks on their own? To me, they are balanced and warm. Easy to make my amp bright or dark with the EQ.
So, after seeing your post, I may go Bogner - 4 Redbacks and Splawn - Redbacks/V30s.

Yeah. 4 redbacks on their own is definitely my favorite. I'd imagine they'd sound great in a bogner cab. @Apex1Rg7X has an Ubercab with v30/Redbacks

I don’t like them. They get better with volume, but I remember them being very muffled and midrangey. The vintage G12-65’s I tried were a lot better though. Not a middle ground of a GB or V30 IME
Thing about 65s is, they had like 44 different cone codes. I've had 4 different versions, and the only real difference is where the highs sit. The first version Marshall labels T3120s DO fit the bill, of a higher powered GB, not dark at all.
At our little amp fest, that's what we used...2 vintage 1979 cabs with those same 3120s...

Thank you.
You prefer it over Redback/H75 or V30?

There's something about the Bogner cab with the RB's/V30's that isn't sitting well with me. I'm not sure how to explain it tbh. My Friedman cab with the GB's/V30's is definitely my go to cab currently.

My Splawn straight cab has Redback/UK V30 and sounds amazing. I'm thinking all Redbacks or Redback/H75 for my Bogner. Believe it or not, RB/CL80 works too. I talked to Coffee cabs and they steered me away from Redback/K100 as there would be too much low end according to them. Not sure if they meant in a 212 cab or 412 cab. I've used RB/K100 in a 212 and it was good but prefer two Redbacks. Curious if it would sound huge in a 412.

This is my setup now:

Bogner 412: Redback/M65 - changing to Redbacks or Redback/H75 (possibly RB/V30)
Splawn 412: Redback/V30 - sounds great
Bogner 212: Redbacks
Stone Age 212: Redback/CL80.

I may change one of my 212s to RB/V30 or RB/H75. Although I had tried these before and ended back on Redbacks. In a 212, I find the cab sounds biggest and fattest with two Redbacks. Redback/K100 in a 212 was good but it had a lot of bass. Maybe too much.

I'd love to try a couple redbacks in a Twin Reverb. They seem to have really grown a following. I have beaten the crap out of some G12 AVT!00 Celestions over the course of many hundreds of gigs and they sound pretty good so I wouldn't hesitate to try some other more premium Celestions in there. I don't really do much for pedals or effects so speakers, pickups, and preamp tubes are usually where I spend my guitar money but I just can't afford no more right now!

Give the Omega speakers by Eminence a shot. I did a quick demo of them.

I’ve got two G12-65’s dated to October 1981. They sound KILLER with my SLO and Granger GNR50 (SIR 36 clone). They are magic when cranked. Like a smooth, wide Greenback.

Yes, the vintage ones I’ve tried are much better. I was referring to the recent made heritage version 65’s. Even at very loud volumes I wasn’t crazy about them. For vintage speakers though there are other speakers still on another level imo, but also a lot more expensive and harder to come by
