i'm getting some V30's and 75's this weekend, so i'd be able to compare them to the Governors and Manowars by Monday, if that would help?

since you've got a Fatbottom, you've probably got some idea if you like Eminence or not?

V30/G12T-75
I like the Celestion 75s.. Was never a fan of the V30s at all.

The two mix together GREAT. Big mids of the V30s and the Lows and Highs of the GTs!

I like the VHT speakers (P50E) that are made by Eminence for them... and I like the tone I get from this cabinet alot. But sometimes I find the tone to be more directional straight than a bit more spread side ways.

If you can give me a comparison between the V30, 75s, MOW and Gov, that'd be awsome.

Thanks

I had the gov/mow put in mine per Scott's recommendations. It sounds great with my Quickrod but I've never tried it with any other amp. This cabinet has HUGE bass

I had it made with full grill cloth which looks killer (the first one ever made that way ;) )

allright, compared a 16ohm V30 cab to an 8ohm Governor cab. they are damned close sounding as far as how they are voiced.

guess for me, i'll give the nod to the Governors, because it was easier to get the V30's to fart out on the bass.

i was hearing little bit more harmonics with the V30's. not sure how much was from the speakers, and how much was from having the amp turned up a little more than it was for the Governors? the Governors are louder from the get go than the V30's, so was cranking the amp more with the 30's to get the same volume.

anyways that's what i got for now? be monday or maybe longer before i mess with the 75's?

Thanks! I am looking forward to hearing what you think when you compare the MOW and the 75's.

Cheers and thanks again!

When Paige (AmpliFIRE) has his Splawn 4X12 loaded with whatever Eminence speakers come standard, him/Danyeo/& I thought it was the worst sounding cab in his arsenal. The bass was so tight it sounded like there was no bottom. I'd say that was my worse complaint. The Governor/Texas Heat I have in my EarCandy cab right now is not my cup of tea either but, it is "different" sounding. In my opinion, go Celestion for your Splawn cab.

Yeah, either that cab and speakers weren't broken in yet or i just didn't like those speakers. Those cabs look very solid though and the basketweave was very thick. Broken in Greenbacks are probably the ticket.

I have two Splawn 412s right now. One with the original Eminence X-Pattern (Govs and Man-o-wars) and one with the new X-Pattern (Big Block/Small Block).

The old cabinets have a great mid presence that cuts really well. It handles bass very nicely. The new splawn cab is a bit darker sounding without the mid spike. The defining thig about it is has A LOT of low end. It can get kind of boomy if you're not careful. Compared to the old cab, the new cab sounds almost scooped. Right now I prefer my old Splawn cab, but the comparison may be a bit skewed as the old cab is nicely broken in whereas the new one is still getting there.

Hope you didnt forget about me bro :D ..

nope, just got lazy for awhile. i'll try and get on the 75's tonight.

tried a really bright amp with the V30's, and it's not liking them nearly as much as my Gov/MOW mix cabs?

so far it's looking good for the Eminence to me. but the Eminence are broken in more though.

Excellent! i am definitly looking forward to what you have to say about the 75s and the MOW when you compare the 2.

Cheers

I've got one 4x12 loaded with Greenies, the other with H30's. Love them both. I had the Gov/Man-O-war combo...but didn't like it as much as what I have now.

Depends which version of Greenies you get, but most are rated at 25 watts, some are at 20. Their tone, IMO, (to over simplify) is very crunchy and woody. The H30's seem to focus on the lower mids a tad more and stay tighter. Honestly, I love both and would have a difficult time choosing one over the other.

Depends on what amp...............but here is my 2 cents.

I pretty much think most of the current Eminence line up sucks (and I've tried a bunch of them).

The only ones I thought were great are the old GB12's. I also liked the stock custom Eminence that come in G-Flex cabs. A few that were absolutely horrible to me were the Wizard, Texas Heat, Black Powder, and Governor. A few that were "OK" were the Swamp Thang, Man O War, V12, and Legend 121. However, I am curious about the new Splawn lineup since they were voiced for his amps.

In regards to the Man O War, I don't think it sounds like a GT-75 at all. The Black Powder is much closer to the 75 (scooped with big round low end). The MoW has more mids and a much tighter low end than a 75.

My favorite speakers to date are the Warehouse CL 80 clones, Greenbacks, and G12h30's. I am not a fan of the real CL80's, but the WGS clones sounded fantastic with my Engl and VHT (not so much with my new Splawn). I'm currently waiting on some Weber Greenback clones. I'm a sucker for trying every speaker I possibly can.

Greenbacks are probably the only speaker that sounded great with pretty much every amp I have owned. I always think I've found something better...........but I keep going back. Its hard to beat a well worn Greenback.

i've got the govener/manowar X pattern in my 4x12's, and i've been really happy with that combo (used it for around 3 years now) nice and full, a tad on the bright side but not harsh, nicely balanced in the midrange

in my 2x12 i've got a hellatone 60 & 60L (basically v30's) which i also love...that cab has a different type of deep low end that records really nicely, it's pretty mid-heavy with the speakers i picked (which is what i wanted) with a nice clarity and smooth top end...that's the oversized 2x12 tho

allright, just gave the 75's a go, and Troublehead is right, they aren't anything like a Manowar. i actually kindda liked the 75's, but they are way more scooped than the Manowar, and i'd think the 75's are too scooped to run on thier own.

the Manowar has a scoop, but it's just a narrow little scoop and it's way boosted on either side of the scoop. don't know how they ever got label as being like the 75?

anyways, i'm gonna stand by Eminence  the Governors are damned good and so are the Swamp Thangs! guess i'll stay on the fence with the Manowar, they can be pretty good, but just think they are going to be more particular about the amp.

i've got no reservations at all, about recomending Governors in a Splawn cab, and think all Governors would cover a lot of ground. if you want to do an X with the Governors then you may want to pick what speakers you use by what amp you use. Swamp Thangs and Governors go good together with quite a few amps.

out of 4 amps i've had, 3 of them liked the Govenor/Swamp Thang mix, better than the Governor/Manowar mix. and one of the amps could be dialed in to be really good with the Gov/MOW mix. amps that liked the Gov/Swamp better were the Splawn Quickrod and Triple Recto. amp that likes the Gov/MOW better is a Mesa Stiletto, which oddly is a really bright amp and that mix is pretty bright it's self? amp that liked Gov/Swamp better, but could be made to sound good with the other mix was a VHT CL/100 with EQ.

edit: hell, i'll tell you what! if you order a Splawn and get a Gov/MOW mix or Gov/Swamp Thang mix and don't like them i'll trade you my V30's or my GT-75's for your Eminence! i've got 4 16ohm V30's with just a few hours and 2 16ohm GT-75's that i just took out of the box tonight.
