Well, I placed my first order w/splawn today and got a 2x12 with Creambacks. I am fighting between the Quickrod and Pro Stock.

I mainly play in an all original pop punk band (think if the Ramones, Offspring and Misfits had an incredibly ugly baby) and NEVER use a clean channel. The other styles I play go from Night Ranger/Styx to Accept/Iron Maiden with some Ratt/Dokken for good measure.

My preferred tone is a slightly more modern/aggressive Lynch/DeMartini type tone

Am I tonally going to hear a difference in those 2 amps? Does the gain clean up well enough with rolling back the volume? I actually love the clean on my Mesa F50 combo which I could A/B.

Its the same amp but a single channel version - if you never use a clean channel then get it based on the quickrod - it will do what you need.

but for $300 the resale value will be higher on the quickrod because most people like having the versatility of a clean in a 100W amp - the headroom is there to use with pedals/effects/etc.

If it were me, I would also go with the B+ option to not make it so super tight. Just my opinion though.

^ That's pretty much what I was going to say but to add that the Quick Rod is pretty much synonymous with the Splawn name so it would be easier to resell down the road me thinks. If you really want to know if there are any tonal differences then I'd either ask Scott or post on the Splawn forum.

Makes sense about resale. Of course no one ever plans on selling gear when they buy it but stuff happens.

I've got a Quick Rod and NEVER use the clean channel...ever. Rolls back just fine!

Awesome. I know it's not a huge difference in price and I am sure flipping it would be harder but I hear the clean is by no means stellar but useable.

Thanks for the input. Have any clips of your QR?

^^^ this I played the B+ option and own a Quickrod and had several others through the years. If I was to do it again I would get the B+ option and the clean channel. Scotts new clean channel sounds real nice and the B+ gives the amp that feel that folks that only played the older splawns would say was lacking a bit. The B+ is very "easy" to shred on compared to the older "Stiffer" feeling older ones.

I have been wondering about the B+ option. My concern is, when it comes to palm muting, I like a nice high chug and not a flubby mess. Would you say the B+ would accomplish that? I know I have heard that the Splawn stuff is unforgiving. I also heard that about VHT/Fryette but honestly the tightness of my Deliverance 120 was awesome.

I just picked up a B+ QR and IMO the low end isn't loose and flubby, it just changed the feel of the amp. The amp is a bit more forgiving now and I haven't had to fight the amp as hard as previous versions of the amp. You can always clean boost it with a OD pedal to tighten up the low end if you ever wanted. I've had great results clean boosting it with my Maxon OD-9 to get tighten up the low end.

Sure. I get you. I would prefer not boosting. I wonder if I can bribe someone into doing a clip for me based on the type of sounds I'm looking for.

Check out the YT site in my sig. More hard rock/metal than Offspring/Misfits power punk, but you'll hear a lot of palm muting, riffing and open chords.
Both me and the other guitarist are playing Quick Rods. Mine's an '05 and his is an '08. Straight up guitar to amp, no boost or dirt box in front and no B+ option.
IME, the amp is far less tight and unforgiving in a band mix than when I play alone. There's even some examples of the clean channel in there too.

Will do. Like I said, I also play a lot of metal and shred stuff. I need versatility in an amp.

Just get a 2012 model straight up, no B+ if you are into metal. The CCV had 560v on the plates in high and 480 on low and the difference isn't what you would think. Everyone I know always kept it on high anyway. I assume Scott will get another tap added to his power trannys so he can just add a switch to go from 500 to 400 pv at the flick of a switch in the future. I have a 2012 QR and it is his best version to date.

I've heard that about the 2012- pretty sure Curt's mentioned it as well. Besides the '05 which is my main gigging amp, I've got a '10 QR too but may have to get a 2012 version too. Thought I got a deal on one a bit ago but turns out it was another '10 misrepresented. Someday.

I do! It may not showcase the style you're after, but it's definitely capable. I've covered lots of styles w/ it and it dominates. I don't boost it. I usually stay in Gear 2/OD1 and if I need a little extra edge I'll go into OD2. Shoot me your email and I'll send what I got.

...And so you are glad you went with the B+ based on your concerns below? You and I have the same scenerios here. I'm still leaning toward the B+. Plus, I hear it's so loud regardless if the plate voltage sucks it down to 80 watts. That would be fine for me.

Do you use the clean channel at all?

I have the latest 2013 Quickrod, standard version, and I don't find it stiff or hard to play at all...I think the newer versions of the amp addressed that issue a bit...a little darker, saggier and a little more gain available than the earlier versions. Clean channel is great, I do use it from time to time. Most of my time is in Gear 2...

A big reason why Scott does so well is that he has found a method in which to keep his overhead and costs lower. Huge props to Scott Splawn and his business practices. An excellent long standing track record. Great amps at an affordable price with no sacrifice in quality. I would give a Quickrod another go. I was too quick to sell and never thought much about how sensitive the amp is to speaker choices a few years back.
