Stopped smoking today.

Congrats brother! Good luck to you. Sept. 25th was 5 years since my last smoke. :rock:

Take it from someone who just had major surgery... You are making the best choice for your life!

I can't stress enough how many times I was asked about smoking when it came to putting me under for my operation (I don't smoke at all and only did socially about 12 years ago)

Smoking totaly incresses the risk for general anestiesia issues and complications with surgery as post op your lungs can become get filled up with fluid and turn to pneumonia (they actually have this brutal medical term for it all) from the gas they make you breathe which leaves all this black crap in your lungs that i was coughing up for days afterwards... They make you do all these lung exercises 10x and hour too to keep your lungs clear for days after surgery because of that gas... it's a serious thing man

All I know is being a non smoker made all the Doctors involed with my case feel much more postive about everything while i in the hospital.

congrats.i smoked for about 18 yrs.and the last 4-5 i was a 2 pack a day smoker.

my wife and son were always on me to stop.then one day my son told me he didn't want me to die.when worded like that,quitting was easy.i honestly waited 4 days after that was said.got my head in a quitting mindset.it was right b4 memorial day 2007.i went to a party on sunday b4 memorial day.drank, smoked as usual.on memorial day i had 4 cigarettes.and since then not another one.never bummed any of anyone,never took a puff from anyone,and stopped then and there from buying them.thats the trick.DON'T BUY THEM and they won't be around.if u can see them you will want one.

now i have a feel much better.more money in my pocket and for my kids.

Going on eight years now. You stopped today. When you wake up tomorow stop for just tomorrow. Tell yourself you just have to make it through today and tomorrow you can smoke. Then keep doing it this way. :thumbsup:
 
wise choice! i quit 4 1/2 years ago after 10 years of smoking which in the last year i was around 2 packs a day, that's when i knew enough was enough.

you'll be amazed at how much better things smell (you, your clothes and hair included) and taste after a while of not smoking.

Stay strong man!!!!!!! The habbit of smoking is very hard to break as is the addiction, change your routine all together. Good luck!!

Good Luck Arild. Tough at first, but easier as time passes. I quit 14 years ago after smoking for 15. It really wasnt that hard for me. I know others that have not been as fortunate. You can do it!
 
You have BALLS :clap:

I hope my friends had the balls to quit smoking. It's such an annoying addiction for any non-smoker.
 
As long as you don't lite the first one you'll be OK, your lungs will thank you.

I quit 9 years ago, it's nice to be able to breathe....smoking is offensive & deadly.

I quite 31 years ago ..... watching how it effected the health and death of several family members and friends is pretty scary. Most habits are not near as unhealthy as smoking cigarettes.
