11s or bigger in standard or you''re a pussy!

11s for me. all guitars and all tunings though I dont go lower than drop Db these days. I supose if I wanted to go lower I move to 12s.

I read an article in this month's Guitar Player mag where YJM states he uses light tops (.008) and heavy bottoms. He is down on the theory that heavier gauge strings mean better tone and sustain. That said, I've historically used .009s on all my trem-equipped guitars and Les Pauls, and .008s on everything else. Of late, however, I've been moving that up to the "+" sets using .0095s on the trem/LPs and .0085s on the fixed-bridge stuff. Liking the results so far. Still a huge fan of the Aurora strings though...

10's.

They should stop manufacturing 9's and 8's out of respect for tone.

Great, another global warming kook.

11s for me on everything.

10s are very confortable but feel like I'll break them easily. Plus I play a lot with my fingers and 11s sound better that way.

I think Yngwie brings the fookin' fury with 8-48.

Ed uses 9-40.

Shoot, the Rev. Billy G. uses 8's.

All those guys have great tone. Play what's comfortable and sounds good to you. That's all that matters.

And Billy tunes down on some stuff
You can hear the strings flapping.

I play 009s now, because I don't play half as much as I used to before I had two kids and a full time job :)
I used to rock 010-046 on Super strats, but I'm not comfortable with that now. I do have a 26,5" scale guitar with 009s, and it works fine (more or less the same tension as 010s on a 25,5"). On my ESP 24,75" I use 0095-046.

If I ever get around to buy that Squier Classic Vibe Custom I'm lusting for, I'm going to put 011s on it, and have it set up by a pro. I couldn't shred on a Tele anyway :D

You guys playing with 11's actually play any notes above the 5th fret? Or are just chugaluggin'.

10's for standard tuning. Better feel and tone than 9's IMO.

Thanks for the replies guys.. I was just generally interested. I have noticed a better tone in terms of chunkiness with 10's but I hate that damn G string. Feels too thick under my fingers. Almost the texture or something. I have vibrato but just doesn't feel right. I'm going back to 9's. Nice to hear that most of the guys who I dig who have nice wide vibrato play with 8's and 9's. I bet after being at 10's I'll be able to rip it up like i like too on 9's. One thing I did enjoy with 10's was feeling as if the high E could take a bit more abuse when I bent it.

I like 9's but use 10's. Lately I've been trying the light top heavy bottom hybrids which are kinda cool, best of both worlds.

D00D!!!

I just installed a set of the Reverend Willie Mexican Lottery Brand Extra Light .007's. HOLY LORD!!! The feel of these things is unreal and 2-step bends are a breeze--the string tension is loose and sweeping/shredding is WAY easy. So far, I'm super-impressed and may have to undergo a fundamental paradigm shift.
