Suhr PT 100, Cameron CCV or Bogner XTC

All good choices, man. I myself went with the Ecstasy and haven't looked back. Haven't tried a CCV but it seems that it's a bit heavier than the others, might be a good choice for diversity. The PT100 is a great versatile Fender meets Marshall amp, but might be too similar to your Marsha in distorted tone. The Ecstasy 101B has its own thing going on, not as heavy as a CCV, but it can do the rippin' hard rock tones or the really smooth lead tones depending on how you set it.

The way this is going I might end up getting an extra amp. The Marsha is on order, so Im leaning towards the PT 100 and the CCV. My wallet is going to take a beating!

You really couldn't go wrong with any of those but as an Ecstasy owner I'm a bit biased towards the Bogner Ecstasy...just a flat out great amp ;)

I'd say CCV or 20th XTC...PT100 sounds closest to the Marsha and I think the Marsha has better tone.

Having owned all of those but the Marsha   ....I'll comment anyway :D

The Ecstasy- it's a darker amp, and definitely has some good stuff going on; the blue channel boosted is great, but the compromise in eq between the two channels always left me wanting...couldn't get the red and blue to do what I wanted, at the same time. Solid choice, but not my favorite.

The PT100- Great amp! One of the best clean tones ever, and the gain is by far my favorite of the Suhr (CAA) stuff I've tried. The gain can go from mild to wild, and with the negative feedback control, and whomp, you can get a ton of different feels. The big downside for me, is that I couldn't get it doing what I wanted at lower volumes, but it's a tube amp, and that usually comes with the territory.

The CCV- I like the flexibility of the first channel; it can be set up as dead clean, or can go really heavy...nice feature. The voicing switches and the various clipping modes let you have a lot of variety on both channels. The second channel can go a ton of different ways, based on the configuration of the clipping, bright switches, and solo master (with it's own clipping selection switch.) The master is very good for a tube amp, as well. The newer ones have midi, if that's important to you.

All in all, the feel of the CCV (combined with the other features) make it the winner for me, but that's as a stand alone comparison, not how it would blend with the Marsha.

In reality, I could be thrilled with any of those amps in the right context; they're all successful for a reason

Also keep in mind these are just my perceptions, and all too often, YMWV.

Hope it helps a bit.

I thought about the Suhr OD 100 SE+, but form what I've heard and read, apparently it is more modern/hi-fi sounding.

There is a difference but it's not that Drastic,
check it out & you decide.

I've got a PT100 and am yet to hear a clip that sounds as good as the amp in person. IMO, it's easily the best all around modded Marshall tone out there.

I have owned a Bogner 101b and a CAA PT100, and have played a CCV. I have a CCV on order. Now that said, I would take any one of the 3 and be happy. I found the CCV had a touch of the Bogner darkness which I like. IF for some reason after I get the CCV I decide that I'm not happy with it I will probably go back to the PT100.

I'm thinking the SE+ sounds a bit better in this comparison. Is he running the micro amp on both amps?

The active pickups do neuter the tone of an amp a bit. The SE+ and PT100 are VERY different sounding amps in actually.
Don't forget though that Speakers are a HUGE factor. So when guys play thru the same cab it will make two amps sound more similar than they really are.

Good points John. That clip should have been titled "watch me dial these guys in exactly the same".  So lets see - you got a Mesa 4x12 with V30's, EMG pickups, MXR micro amp and a shit ton of gain with the same guys ears twirling the knobs. I get ya- talk about a fun house mirror. So that's where James Lugo's amp fest went astray. He ran all those amps through a single front loaded Bogner Uberkab.

The Fortin JVM has eliminated all GAS pains for me for good. It covers so much ground that I just havent found a need to look elsewhere. I loved all of the Cameron modded Marshalls that Ive played over the years and I feel that I can get close enough with my Marshall. Bogners and I just never got along , something about their voicing just makes them not my cup of tea despite some great clips that Ive heard..

That said, the one amp that has me curious as hell is the Suhr PT-100. Im almost afraid to try it because I dont want to fall out of love with the Marshall. John is a great guy and I think just about everything he has his hands on is something special. I didnt care for any of the OD's that I played but everything that Ive ever heard from the PT is stellar..

Jeez.....watching Mark play both them amps.... :inlove: :inlove:
Such KILLER TONE from each!!
But I have such an interest in the CCV......I would check that out. ;)

After this comparison I actually wound up dialing in the SE+ to be more similar to the PT. I have since changed to Aldrich passives in my Modern and LP. Also I use the Koko Boost as a boost instead of the MXR MicroAmp. Alas I still use a ton of gain :)

The PT and the SE+ are different sounding amps. Most people tend to like the PT100 more. I like the SE+ more than the PT but I could easily roll with either one, both great amps.
The Cameron is also very cool. It is different from both the Suhr amps. I want all 3. Now.

an honest question, I wonder if it doesn't record as well. I have tried to track amps that sounded much better in the room and recorded it just didn't jive as well, where as some amps just LOVE to be mic'd and recorded. User error most likely, but still, there are some amps that just love the mic and others that may sound great in the room, but don't translate as well..
