Well, if Ed ever considered working with Sammy again, this book will probably stop that.
Best news. Ever.

who the hell is hagar to tell EVH that he "better make a good record"? lol

True but Ed hasnt made one since OU812 IMHO... so I don't know.

For me that last good Van Halen record was 1984. That's a long time ago.

didn't eddie say he got cancer from metal picks in his mouth and the magnetic field of his recording gear, not smoking??

I heard him say that on the Stern show and he also said that he was working with a doctor(s) to develop a cure for cancer as well. It couldn't possibly have been from the smoking and drinking (which is the number one cause of head/neck cancers).

When you hear the stories of Roth and Hagar and if you don't believe what they say, all you have to do is hear the crap that come's out of Eddie's mouth and you know who's telling the truth for the most part.

I heard sammy say in one of his recent interviews Ed isn't even capable of playing the old stuff anymore.
Its over. Sammy's just trying to sell some books.

I paid close to $100 for a ticket to the VH 2004 tour in St Louis. Eddie was completely blown out on something. It was a horrible performance that even the radio station commented about. I'm done with them. I appreciate the body of work, but I don't ever expect that form to come back.

And when the pills to cure cancer come in black and yellow striped capsules, we'll know that EVH had something to do with that.....

Sammy comes off as a sore loser in his comments. Reality is; how many people would really want to read a book about Sammy Hagar, other than guys interested in his hairdo and color-coordinated clothes? Nothing about him compels me to read about his life and lifestyle....his singing is bland, his lyrics are corny, and he's not entertaining. I'd rather read about Graham Bonnet than this douche.

While I'm not a big Sammy fan I've never once heard Graham Bonnet sing a note on pitch.

I was reading this in the latest RS magazine yesterday, wasn't really surprised by what I read. I mean we like EVH for his playing, not for his personal or life skills. It sure seems that with any great talent, there also comes great deficiencies...

Graham Bonnet! :D That guy was such a shit singer... i love watching the old live Alcatrazz stuff with him all over the board pitch wise. Yet he just goes out there and he brings it. Graham was apparently a total professional though and took what he did seriously so ya gotta give him that...

VH is done. The guy is a nutcase. Ego and substance abuse killed that guy long ago. I remember hearing an interview with him just after Randy Rhoads had died and he said Randy was "good" but still found a way to throw a dig in by mentioning that he had done the tapping thing long ago. He's a dick and always has been.

Every time I read Sammy say that Eddie said, "I gotta take a shit", immediately my mind went to, "I gotta go to the bathroom for a few minutes to hook up a fix".

I have NO inside information and I'm not accusing the man of being a junkie, but if it walks like a junkie and talks like a junkie...

EVH is the reason I picked up the guitar.

I saw the 2004 tour, Eddie flat out sucked at playing he was so drunk, or high, or both. Worst solo I've ever heard. He could barely speak, let alone play. Big failure. Such a waste of what used to be the gold standard in guitar playing.

I am the biggest DLR fan out there and a huge VH fan. That said, I think Sammy is great and saw his solo band live once, and they were awesome. He is a great songwriter and writes for himself and many others. EVH has sucked for a long time. He does have something to prove, he just doesn't know it. As for EVH not being able to play his own stuff anymore, let's just say there are other people that can do his stuff better than he can these days. I saw the reunion tour with my own eyes...and ears at MSG in NYC. It was good, but not great, and it was one of the better shows. The Chickenfoot cd is very good, and if you think that sucked than please go listen to VH III. There is no way that VH III is better than Chickenfoot or any of Sammy or Satch's solo work for that matter.

Hagar was in the bigtime for quite sometime before VH with Montrose. Id say he`s probably more level headed? Who knows

It's almost like the guys who made that great album in '78 all died in a plane crash years and years ago. Because even though that didn't happen, they're ghosts of what they once were. And even though we wish and hope, we'll never see them again. Fans have been screwed out of what, 10-15 albums that never happened. Even if they're weren't all great, there would have been 4-5 gems in the bunch.

And this, maybe only a guitar player would understand: When Eddie started fucking up his tone and recording with the sounds after Mean Streets or Women and Children First, you know something had to be wrong with him. We're lucky we got the first four albums as it is.

I agree. DLR said this in countless interviews when he got together with Vai. In so many words he said "Eddie has to realize he's not the only guy who can play anymore. There are guys like Steve Vai and Yngwie that are innovating now, they way EVH used to."

I forget where I read that but it pissed me off at the time. But he was right.

The part where EVH flips out when Toby Keith gets a huge audience reaction speaks volumes. The guy is over the top infatuated with himself and all the praise he received early on in his career.

I really liked Me Wise Magic and that other DLR tune.....EVH had a chance to return to glory at that point in the 90s but totally blew it (again).

The idea of Eddie living at his 5150 studio and his brother 2 miles away and yet nothing released in 20 years? There's a lot of non-music activity going on

The whole thing is sad, he was such an early influence on my playing

I really think what happened toEd is that he quit playing after VhIII for long period of time. Imo Same thing with Lynch he said he didnt play for 10 years and that`s what everyone was seeing, saying he doesnt have it anymore etc. The VH brothers have always partied / stayed fucked up back in the day and Ed played great. I honestly think he just quit playing and that was/ is the results of what everyone has seen in the last 5-6 years.

I pre-ordered the book on Amazon. I've spent $16.00 on worse things. Should be an interesting read.
