Switching Back to Pedals

Probably a good idea to make it modular.

As much as I love the picture I would die from option paralysis. For a while I'd just stand there drooling with my eyes rolled back in my head, but eventually starvation would set in.

I don't need to switch the order for my purposes. I just need to activate them via MIDI for certain patches on the FX8. If I just add a few pedals up front, I'll free up some room on the FX8 to do more weird shit in the loops. Plus, that's how I'm using it now.

It makes way more sense to add on to what I'm using now than to start over with a switcher and all pedals. Besides, most (if not all) of the stereo pedals I would use in the loops are digital anyways, and won't do the complex shit the FX8 will do.
I've never used one, but have heard nothing but love about the Fractal modulation and time based effects models. I will say though that having my entire signal digitized with no analog dry through is a big no for me, and from what I understand that's how they are designed. I also prefer to keep filter effects all analog, so any wah/auto-wah, most synth pedals I'd be interested in, and all phasers are solely analog for me.

I like your pedal switcher rig idea better personally, but in the end do whatever works best for you.

That's how I play with my phasers usually. Hours of drooling that doesn't count as "practice".
It helps knowing I'm not the only one.

By the way, since you are doing a stereo board and love phasers too, a Mr. Black Twin Laserz is a killer Mutron Bi-Phase clone with parallel or stackable twin 4/6 stage phasers for 4/6 stages in stereo or 8/12 stages in mono.

Also the Pigtronix Echolution 2D has an all analog filter section that can be configured as great sounding phaser, and it's all midi capable. Stereo i/o. The phaser with ping pong delay is fucking yes.

Here. Andy even starts off the demo with a nice slow sweeping filter and delay. With this in the loop, and a quality univibe clone up front you'd be set.

i have an old rivera RM-1 4 loop switcher with a built in buffer

mine is torn apart at the moment but having played my friend’s new board today, i’m toying with the notion of putting it back together with my current lineup of pedals.

if i do i’ll pick up a mini mixer because the H9 and Yamaha Magic Stomp i want to use at the end of the chain does horrible things to the dry tone.
