I love these Gear Gods Rigged videos!

Of course, I have to show you this one... :D

It's very cool to see what all the guys use on the road.
This was their touring rig back in 2015-2016.

I can't believe that he is using Tone Zones in the neck, those things are hot in the bridge position. I guess that explains how he is able to do the legato stuff so effortlessly. Nice video overall, each of them really has a pretty simple setup.

Yeah, I used to have his Caparison signature model, was not a big fan of the Tone Zone in the neck (not quite the glassy "sweep" tone I like with other neck pickups for that style of playing). Obviously he makes it work quite well, but he could make anything sound amazing.

He states the fireballs are power amps, what is the preamp section he uses?

I am guessing the G-System for dirt and going with the OCD, etc. Pretty pedestrian rig which is cool. Love Romeo. Such a killer shredder.

4-4x12's.. They must be making money?

What's that come out to? $4k? You guys drop that on an amp head without blinking.
:D

Companies rent and lease gear.
They could just lease them for the tour. Comes out of the overall budget.
Sometimes the venue you play at has PA's and gear. You can piggyback
your shit with the house shit. You know how it works.

I am guessing they are Engl artists and Engl provided for the tour. My old death metal band had an Engl endorsement for a short time and even as an unknown band, they were one of the most generous brands we dealt with. I would guess a known band like Symphony X can get cabs for close to cost so 4 wouldn't be exorbitantly expensive. He is also playing Fireball's which are not on the higher end of cost spectrum for Engl either.

Like i said, for all intents and purposes he is using a solid but frugal rig for a band of their stature.

I'll bet you are right.
Romeo is an ENGL artist. He is also endorsed by Caparison guitars.

Years ago, Romeo approached MESA/Boogie. ( Since he used the TriAxis units )
MB turned him down.
So you know how I feel about THAT.

He used line6 for a long time too. Pod Pro XT

Funny. Guy sells a fair amount of albums, is recognized as a guitar hero for our times, tours the world many times over... can't get a Boogie endorsement... too bad. Engl makes some cool stuff though. Would love to check out one of his sig Caparison's

I was implying that the venues they play justify 2 full stacks. This would never fly on The Gear Page where a 2x12 combo needs a Chamber Of Commerce approved plan to move around for a horseshit blues gig..FTMFL.

Engl Fireballs 100 & 60 ... interesting.
I was surprised as well. I'd expect him to be using the Blackmore, Morse or Invader. He's always actually kind of had bad tone imho for such a killer player. Maybe no bad but definitely lackluster...

Romeo's "tone" was always second to his playing.
He has tried lots of different gear over the years. When I seen them in Hollywood, Romeo was
using a Line-6 Vetta head. This was back when they were on tour with Blind Guardian.

When Romeo switched to the ENGL stuff, his tone improved greatly.
When you listen to the CD, you are hearing recording and production as well as amp tone.
A good recording engineer knows tricks.

To my highly experienced ears, the best Symphony X guitar tone is on the album "Iconoclast".
The solos just rip your face off.

I had heard that he used ENGL Powerballs in the studio for that album.

I never seen or heard of him using a POD Pro XT.
But I know he used the VETTA head on the road. Years ago.

He may have tried the POD for a bit, but I am not aware of it.
The POD sucks. I just can't see him using it for anything other than casual practice
on the bus or back stage before the show.

It was Vetta. My mistake. I knew it was line6 though

I thought he did use a POD for awhile, this is something he said in an interview at one point: "For live, I was using the POD for the last year or two. It’s cool that it has all the different sounds you can use, but I think the heavier sounds weren’t quite what a Rectifier would do."

Engl Fireball 100 is perfect for Symphony X tone IMO, such a killer amp and a good match for Romeo's riffage.

Since Romeo has this in his rig... I found this interesting.
