tell me about TC Electronics G Major II

Are these good processors for the money? Or are they now outdated by the Axe FX and so on.. Thanks

Axe FX and the G-Major II are at entirely different price brackets. For the money, I don't think anything beats the G-Major II, IMO. It has its flaws, but considering how cheap these go for, and the options they have, it's worth it. I used to have an Ultra, an Eclipse, tons of Rocktron gear, DigiTech DSP stuff, etc. I sold it all and only have the G-Major II with an Intellifex for backup.

It's not bad. Some of the reverbs and choruses can be a bit sterile compared to my Intellifex, but the clean delays, extremely solid harmonizer and versatility make the pros outweigh the cons, IMO.

I know you're asking about the Major II but I've had a Major I for a good amount of time and it eliminated tap dancing for me all-together. The reverb algorithms are great if you spend the time to program them (as are the delays) and do not disappoint. I've been able to go from VH inspired reverb and delay to an almost Gilmour-Edge type of thing on other programmed patches. The chorus blocks can be very lush and flanger/phaser are bad either. I'm still tweaking the harmonizer patches (don't do much anyway) and for me at least, it's a tough shell to crack (I never think it's 'right').

Currently, I'm thinking about upgrading to the II and leaving my I for studio duties (it's old and beat to shit). If I had the cash, I'd go Axe II without hesitation but for the price point; functionality and sound, the Major cannot be beat.

I had a G Major I and from what I can speak on...I hated it and returned it the same day. Tone sucker.

To my ears the II is cleaner than the I, way less unwanted coloration. I think I heard that it has improved AD/DA converters, which would make sense.

Tom, do you prefer the Intellefex?
Both can be had used for cheap at the moment, but the Intellefex seems to be a bit cheaper due to its age (I guess)

Depends on what you need. If you can get by with the Intellifex's more limited effects, go that route. I transitioned to the G-Major II because I needed the harmonizer and extra versatility.

Do u find lag between changing presets?

Only when different routings are set. Lock the routing, and there's no lag. Also, I think the zero whatever flanger causes some lag, so don't use that, either.
