I don't really fault him for it. He's not trying to become a conglomerate like Fender. He isn't really known for treating his employees like trash ala Gibson. Brands have been going overseas for their entry level lines for 50+ years. He has his own factory section in Indonesia so it's not just some 100% farmed out arrangement. I would bet with the price of a core line PRS the margins are still pretty decent.PRS did sell out years ago with the SE lone and others. Guitars massed produced in Indonesia and China. The Guitars made oversees for PRS is what keeps them in business. Not much margins at all on USA made guitars
Those guys are never willing to reduce their lifestyle footprint though. I guess I've known to many bosses. They'll dock your barely above minimum wage pay, lay people off, or just hire crackhead level help before they tell themselves hey I don't really need a 5k square foot place and a 250,000 boat because families are counting on me. The whole undercover boss thing with Hartley pretty much said it all. They had no way to compete price-wise given the move by so manufacturers moving their production to Asia. They held out for a long time. No argument that Peavey messed up with most of their employees.
