sure just PM me your email.. i'll send you both.

I'm kinda having a revelation here right now, I actually think the Suhr version sounds incredible- maybe better than the mic'd cab.
Done. I look forward to checking out the difference of the two. This helps in what I'm trying to do at home. Thanks a ton!

This was Axe direct and all you hear is my guitar:

Jamie's Cryin' Full Mix

I'm sure I could get closer, but this is a stock preset and a $10 redwirez basketweave cab sim... There is absolutely no easier way to get killer recorded guitar tones than the Axe... I have had guitar players tell me that they didn't realize it wasn't the original until I mentioned it...

Two words - Fire Sale!!

I gotta have an Ultra!
:D

Thanks...

It sounds cool on my iPhone...I'll have to check it out on real speakers when I get home.
Cool...

cool comparison. There is a difference between the mic and cab IR, but I would definetally expect there to be. I think it would be more scientific to create an IR from YOUR cab and YOUR mic and room, to do an exact side by side to hear what differences you get. Otherwise, moving a mic a tiny bit, different, cab, room etc etc are all major variables into sound differences.

Thanks for taking the time to do all this Pete.

I think its pretty simple to create your own IR's. Never done it myself, but I think its a matter of running a sine wave into your amp, recording your speaker with your mic, and then using software to craft the IR.

Did he ever say which one was the real Marsha and the Axe Fx?

To me it was evident immediately, in fact no comparison. The difference to me was night and day, I wonder if my ears are that good or you're all just deaf. I own an AxeFx so I'm praying I'm wrong because to me the first part of the clip stomps a mudhole on the second part (my opinion) but the first is definitely the real amp and the second clip is the Axe Fx..I want to be wrong and see if my ears are that good   :gethim: but the first one murders the second part of the clip.

Am I correct original poster dude?

1 is axe fx
2 is Marsha.

There u go!

Discuss!

Exact opposite of what most of us guessed.

I actually knew the answer all along though cuz I can hear digitally but didn't want to spoil the game.

That was my first thought .... but they were close enough that I could not guess.

surprised. I liked the 1st clip best, and thought it was the amp. Both sounded good.

Just listened and I was 100% sure that the second half was the amp without seeing the answers first.

The top end on the first clip was too "restrained" to be a mic'd up moving speaker, IMHO. The high end is usually what gives it away. The low end on the real amp clip also "gave more."

In a mix, with a top end boost, I think the Marsha sim would be almost indistinguishable.

Peter, you did an EXCELLENT job comparing the two, and matching your microphone positioning to the simulator's impulse. The best comparison I've heard by far for this kind of test

I just did, wanted to clone some of my cabs so I could 'gig' with them through the axe fx, and while it's easy to do in theory, making them sound good so far is a colossal pain in the ass.

the lesser Pete

In the past I've been really good at picking out the Axe vs real amp clip. There was always something in the initial attack that gave it away, but for a while now in clips/recordings I haven't been hearing that (I think it must've been fixed in a firmware update) and this one was no exception :D . I kind of leaned to what it ended up being, but really I had no idea so it would've just been a lucky guess had I posted it   . Through my crappy speakers I will say 1 seemed thicker & 2 seemed to have more string definition, but again I really had no idea which was which since neither of those qualities made one inherently better than the other IMO.

I didn't guess, because honestly, I could not tell enough of a difference to do so. But I was considering saying the second was the amp, just to go against the grain of everyone else. Guess I should have! Than I could pretend to be on a cork-sniffery high horse   ;)

I totally agree. After you replaced the 2nd half of the clip, I was like WOW !
