The speakers jim was referring to were pvc made in a vintage way to give a certain sound. They are unlike the evh which were marketed as less watts to pretend to be vintage.

In Jim's vintage style speaker, they can overheat and melt. So he was helping people not to get too close to the actual rating as people would be more likely to use them in a cranked amp.

The evh speakers in a 4x12 cab is completely legitimate for the evh 5153 because they are just rebranded greenbacks and no one cranks a 5153 because it has preamp gain that would require at most half of the volume (less watts) to get you to the sound you want. Cranking one of those amps would sound like shit.

I knew as soon as he said it, you would misu derstand and take it as a victory, but he was giving you an example of why someone would underrate a speaker. It was always going to go over your head
