To "mark days and years" i.e for men to measure time with. Seems clear to me.

For those who hadn't considered this:
The Bible uses the measurement of days countless times and in every instance it means literal days.
The oft-quoted verse about (paraphrasing) "... to God... a day is like a thousand years... " is 100% not intended to undermine the book's usage of the literal day as a measurement of time. God exists outside of time and space and therefore time has no meaning to Him. The popular phrase, "Since the dawn of time" is in fact not fairytale stuff - when God created the universe (single, spoken sentence BTW - let there be), the trilogy of time, matter and space had to come into existence simultaneously. None could exist without the other two. IOW, time literally
began then.
God created animals. Then Adam. A suitable helper for Adam was sought from among the animals and when none was found he removed Adam's rib and made Eve.
Another tidbit for the uninitiated, the use of Adam's rib:
1) It's the only bone in the body that grows back. Lucky God knew that.
2) It means that Eve was genetically-identical to Adam (sex excluded obviously).
Point 2 explains why their children were able to breed, and then their kids and so on without the issues inbreeding has today.
Additional observations regarding this:
The human genome was once-perfect but is deteriorating and will continue to do so until we're gone. Same goes for all animals and plants.
Every breeder knows that you have to bring in new blood periodically in order to prevent catastrophe.
Expand the gene pool (number of specimens being worked with), and it's necessary less-often.
Expand the gene pool again, and the period is lengthened once again.
Extrapolate this to the entire gene pool worldwide and one can see that whilst the deterioration is ameliorated to a great extent, it's
not halted altogether.
Bottom line:
All genetic code is deteriorating due to environmental toxicity and other factors, but most-importantly, 'cause its a constant, via copying error. IIRC there's a 3-in-4 error-parsing code built-in, but mistakes still slip through during the copying process.
In order for evolution to occur, new, specifically-designed coding must somehow appear. In reality, all mutations are in fact errors and when visible, manifest as deformities and / or disease. Natural variation does not count - it's a wise strategy in the coding to accommodate environmental diversity and in fact is restricted to colour, size / length / width / density. Think hair (colour, thickness, curly / not-curly), bones (long, short, thick, thin), eyes (brown, blue - yes, there are only 2 iris colours) and on it goes.
Nothing new can be created no matter how you play with these parameters. You can start with a wolf and end up with a Chihuahua, but it's still a dog. You could even breed them together, logistical challenges aside .
I do think dinosaurs and man walked together at some point per Job 40 starting at verse 15.

Reptiles never stop growing.
Pre-flood, everything not only lived long, but grew big - plenty of fossil evidence - 18" grasshoppers, 28" dragonflies, 2m millipedes, 28" scorpions, 2.5m sea scorpions, and on it goes. Here in Oz we used to have massive birds, giant kangaroos and wombats and so on. Now imagine reptiles. There you have your dinosaurs.
Nova famously refused to look at giant dinosaur footprints preserved in ancient mud (not rock) that had human footprints passing through them; people were pointing and urging them to check it out and they refused. Right there you have the propaganda machine I spoke of earlier, the 3 most-siginifant I can think of offhand's being the Smithsonian Institute, National Geographic and of course the education system.
Why did they grow so-big? Massively-greater oxygen content and atmospheric pressure due to constant high humidity, the combination thereof allowing hitherto-unseen thriving of life in all forms. Fossil evidence proves that the entire land mass of earth was covered with forest and the trees were of course
massive. Flora and fauna density would've been at levels never seen since obviously. All that coal... and all that oil from an unimaginably-huge animal mass being squished...
Oh and one last thing about these terrible lizards - they were called dragons. St. George obviously slayed a dinosaur. Just as is the case nowadays, dudes who protected their villages from these beasts were held up as heroes. A meteor, or... man? Just how many "beasts" have we hunted to extinction? The Great White sharks are lucky someone stepped in.
