No need to be sorry. It's simple, she’s infinitely better than you on guitar, if in fact you even play guitar.

What high school grade are you presently in and have you studied like a good little boy for your upcoming civics exam?

But like was said above... Anyone can learn anything they want... I could learn the same piece if I wanted to devote my time and efforts to it...

Completely untrue. If this were so then everybody that put the effort into playing what they like would excel at it, but that is simply not the way it works. The supporting facts for this should be clearly apparent to us all and not only as it relates to guitar playing.

Looks like it would be a tough piece to play.

It really isn't, at least the really "scalar" parts in the first section

I had the tab for this years ago and was able to make a pretty good go of it when I was younger.

This is not meant to detract from her playing, which is awesome and very precise, but its not the hardest piece, and I was never able to play it that well at all.

Not having a go but what's in bold is pretty funny.

Oh hells yeah...She knows how to put the hook on the riff and give a great boob jiggle! Cool rock and roll chic playing well and having fun doing it.
Damn skippy! Fully agree. 0:52 in that clip got my attention even more than my fresh cup of coffee. Worth several viewings. :)

I'll echo what someone mentioned earlier in the thread regarding the skill needed to play the OP's piece. The web/world is loaded with technical wonder kids....but way too many of them choose to display their growing skills simply duping pieces that others created. Wish they spent more time woodshedding their composition chops. Yeah yeah, she's just a kid having fun (or is she, lol). I get that. But we've been seeing youngsters displaying vids similar to this for a looooong time and saying "oh man, watch out for this one, gonna re-write the guitar book" (or drums, etc). Then they go and vanish as they age because they're never creative enough, too devoted to duping vs originating. Many of them anyway. I liked her guitar though!

Honestly, I couldn't give a damn less if anyone is better than me at guitar. I play what I play, I enjoy what I play and that is all that matters. This whole dick measuring contest that people like you constantly have about who's better is laughable to me... Play what you love, not to impress... If you love this stuff, awesome... For the record, I am an engineer... I would say I did pretty decent in High School

I disagree but again it's an opinion. I respect yours. I feel that anyone who puts their mind to something and works hard enough at it, can achieve it. That's what makes us as humans superior. This piece would probably take me 20 years to learn. But I could learn it if I was determined to. You can do anything if you work at it hard enough.

Yeah, I like it. These are always tough, depends on what you are honed in on...technical chops, stage presence/image, tone, nice seeing the gender representation, or some combination. The chubby middle-aged guy playing this isn't usually going to warrant the same level of critique, right or wrong. I think she played really well, I don't think "prodigy"...that's fine for what it is, nice little clip (and yeah, nice guitar).

I'm glad young women are taking up guitar and getting good at it. It is great for music! One less lady kaka, one more Little Lita....

Yeah bitchez...

She should spend more time learning to cook and clean

Q: How many guitar players does it take to screw in a light bulb?

A: 6. One to actually screw in the light bulb and 5 to stand around with their arms folded talking about how it sucked and how they could do it better.

Anybody can achieve their highest level of ability with enough focus, effort and disciplined practice, however, this is only within the limitations of each individual. The same way world class athletes have natural attributes coupled with a wide array of techniques which are obtained through disciplined learning and practice, leaving behind those without the same natural gifts, some excel musically and some don't, regardless of desire, dedication and practice.

I'm not speaking theoretically here, I'm speaking practically, which is really all that matters in a discussions of this kind.

Fo sho.

I tend to think that peeps that criticize a young player that obviously practices alot, and say things like, "they don't play with feel, etc." normally aren't that good themselves. They have a delusion that just because they are playing slow, and making a funny face, that they have some magical, soulful, deep, feeling that no one else could even come close to understanding.

Being "soulful," or playing with feeling and dynamics, does tend to come with age, but players have to start somewhere. Having good technical chops and dexterity, isn't a bad place to begin. I wish that I wasn't so lazy when I was younger, and spent more time on technique. I think I play with feel, (feel is just as subjective as "tone" IMO) but I don't have near the speed or dexterity of some of the younger players, and I wish I did sometimes.

I say hats off to them, and hopefully they will write some cool music when they get older. To me writing is the most important thing that I look for as a listener.

I never claimed to be any good... I also never said she couldn't play. I just dont find her interesting. There is 0 emotion on her face. It bores me to watch. I like seeing passion in a player. Is that a crime?

Right on!

As a former (and actually "off the record" current) guitar teacher, it is abundantly clear that no amount of practice and desire will lead to certain players achieving their goals of virtuosity. Period. They simply don't have the mental and/or physical capacity to do it.

When a person starts in with the "anybody could do that with enough practice" routine (whether it be music, sports, or anything else that requires innate talent, dedication, and a willingness to work hard and practice), I can typically show you somebody who lacks any or all of those traits.

No, just kind of overly judgemental considering her age and ability. If she was my daughter, I would be super proud of how good she was. I think we get caught up trying to compare a teenage girl to professional, seasoned guitar players.

Let's face it, you didn't say something like, not interesting to me, but she has skill. You called her a trained monkey with no soul IIRC. A look on someone's face doesn't = soul. FWIW I my post wasn't specifically targeted towards you, otherwise I would have quoted you. Your statement does fall under the basic topic of my post though. Not trying to start a fight, or be a dick. I just think we need to step back now and then and think before we speak. I'm guilty of speaking too soon/loud myself, but I'm working on it. ;)

I love dogging peeps playing, but I think that sort of criticism should be saved up for making fun of adult, professional or semi-pro players. They are much funner to tease IMO. :D
