this goes for guys like yngwie as well, i see hate on him saying "no soul, plays too fast" and i think its simply because the people saying that crap cant play anything like that, they hide their jealousy in the "no soul" crap all the time, in reality they wish they could do that. yeah keep playing your pentatonics.

How old is this girl, 14? How can she have any soul when she doesn't have any real life experience? She's probably not in a band yet and hasn't been around the block near enough times.

Thats why most kids who are technically impressive are still sort of gimmicky because they haven't come into their own yet. And I don't mean "gimmicky" with a negative connotation. Just that it seems far more impressive when a 14 year old plays this then when a dude in his late 20's does.

When she gets older and comes into her own, thats when you really start to see what kind of player they are. How is her touch? Her vibrato? Can she write a song?

From a technical stand point she's amazing and incredibly talented. What she does with it when she matures will be the really interesting part.

Truth.

BTW Bob I agree with you that not everybody has "it." I know dudes who have been playing for years who are terrible and girls like this at 14 who can mop the floor with me. :idk:

Here's the end of it. Vais' right hand his almost perfect at 1:17.

Your sig GIF still cracks me up.

  Me too and as a ex animator it's so simple yet so cool. I thought it would get old and I'd take it off but it still makes me chuckle.

because if one of us played that half that fast we'd be bowing to the crowd as everyone was giving each other high fives and slapping each other in the arse.
Absolutely.

Saying that a 14 year old can't have soul yet is pretty crazy. If anything, with youth comes honesty. I was quite capable of playing classical music with academically-adjudicated feeling & interpretation at that age.

There's no set template or path of learning for an expressive instrument like the electric guitar. Everybody's reasons for playing are different. If a kid wants to lock himself in a room & play scales & arpeggios to a metronome all day long then fair play to him.

I really dug the OP vid. No passion, are you kidding me? Take a closer look at her mouth, she's gritting her teeth, pursing her lips and moving her jaw around. She's putting everything she has in to it! 'Just because she's not striking some goofy testosterone rock star pose doesn't mean she's not playing with feeling...sheeesh.

I didn't think my post on this topic was overly negative. I said she has chops and played it fine. That's a negative? I guess not liking the tone and a mention that it was a bit cold makes me a negative, jealous, wannabe know nothing about guitar fool

It wasn't overly negative, and you did have something positive to say. This thread actually isn't nearly as bad as many I've seen either, but some of the comments just kill me because if one of us played that half that fast we'd be bowing to the crowd as everyone was giving each other high fives and slapping each other in the arse.

I guess sometimes I just get really tired of how critical we guitar players are generally.

Fair enough and a lot of truth to that around here. I do find it a bit funny when people don't care for a certain thing, or its not their cup of tea or give an honest opinion different than dropping on the kneed and slobbin the knob seem to mean they are jealous or technically inept as a player which isnt the case. I'm an oddball as I don't get Star Wars (I made it about 1/2 hr in and never watched since) I don't find anything particular special about Slash, Jake E Lee or Warren DiMartini (flame suit on for dudes stuck in the 80's like me) it doesn't mean I can't play their shit...it simply means I don't like their shit, I'd take this girl's playing over both of them.

Also some truth there as well. Usually form guys who don't like neo-classical and stuck in pentatonics for the last 30 years. I don't know how anyone with a sane mind or any knowledge of guitar can honestly listen to Icaurs Dream Suite and tell me there is no feeling to it.

I don't think it matters about what faces/motions you make while you're playing in terms of emotion put in, people are all different in how they feel music.

Technically, she's very good and I'd like to be able to play that piece for sure, but these things always remind me of Facebook posts that go around, like a 5 year old playing piano or a 2 year old playing the harp or whatever; they're impressive to a lot of non-musicians especially, but that's it really.

I'm all for honest, constructive criticism particularly since it's all a matter of opinion, perspective and taste anyway. I'm also not a pop psychologist nor will I waste time pontificating the reasons why threads similar to this seem to generate so much negative heat relative to posts from forum members who post far less along the lines of technical and musical ability, and get great praise, but I do find it an interesting phenomena.

Man, I remember the days back when Nick Sterling was really young. Sweetest kid in the world and a great player for his age and he got torn apart like a baby gazelle at a cheetah party.

What the hell happened to Nick anyway. Last I heard he was fired from Sebastian Bach's band because he bailed at the last minute on a live concert video and then he joined a Zeppelin tribute. Kinda sad… Really excellent player and I liked the solo stuff he did too… Went to see him perform with Sebastian a couple years ago and he was already gone, which was really disappointing...
