Hey !

Was the clip recorded at a loud volume ?

I'd love to hear a clip with other speakers. Thats a reflection of my dislike of G12H30s, not the amp thats for sure :)

Yea pretty fricken loud, master volume on channel 2 just shy of noon...

I tried the amp at rehearsal with my marshall cab with g12t75's and it sounded killer to... i dig the h30s more though ! especially in the mids

Here is a clip i did in like 30 seconds, still havent really tweaked my setting yet... But god damn this thing can get saturated! I've been looking for this tone my entire life... It's so versatile to, I was pulling out Warren Haynes tones last night on channel 1 , and then going to the lead channel and pulling anything from Death Metal, Thrash, to 80's hair.... Im going to work on more clips tonight to show how versatile this thing is... The blues tones are Unreal!

Glad to see you're digging the CCV. No real surprise to me though, it's by far the best amp I've ever owned. Yup, that's right I own a CCV. Its sitting right on top of a 4x12 uber cab. Going down in the basement to jam w/ the band.

Congrats Nick! Now if I could just get another invite to the house........

your invited! bring the aldrich ! ill have my buddy bring his HG jose!

Sounds great.

Just curious... how do you set the mids (heck, all of the controls) on the Modded Marshalls and the CCV. Do you scoop or boost?

Punch almost all the way up voicing switch to the right which kind of scoops the mids a bit
Presence about 1:30 switch to the left which is not super bright its inbetween the brightest and darkest presence setting

Bass 1:30
Mids - 2 oclock
Treble around noon
gain 1 dimed with dip switch set to left
gain 2 around 10:30 with dip switch to right
Master volume - LOUD with Dip switch to the right

I can't believe how versatile this amp is, I think that beyond the incredible hi gain and mid gain tones this amp pulls off, the clean can go from anything like a chimey twin, to a really smooth unique blues kind of tone, never quite heard anything like it... this amp really does it all.... more to come

As far as the marshalls, it depends, Usually boosting the mids, presence around noon or 11 oclock, treble around 1:30 2 oclock, it depends on the mods.... The most amazing part of this ccv is how well it cuts.. I dont have to really crank it to be heard... where as with the marshalls they gotta kind of ROAR to open up... the master volume setup with the ccv is top notch...

Dude Words cant describe the viciousness i heard... it made the ground shake and my poo poo tickle... needless to say Im fuckin DEAF NOW !

Came in this afternoon!! Picked it up from a friend and it's Absolutly killer...

Just got back from band rehearsal and all I can say is wow....Sounds great in the clips and at the amp shows and namm. But in a band situation this amp is just GIGANTIC! I didnt have to turn up any where near as loud as my marshall to cut through.... Just a big fuckin wall of sound! .... clips and more in depth review to come....

Looks sweet and sounds excellent
Congrats on the new amp.

Cheers,
Mike

Those were in there from the previous owner. I think they werent that old... They sound absolutly killer in that amp... I tried several different things and i ended up back with those tubes everytime. I didnt dig kt88's in that amp, i thought they were to clean and didnt add any breakup to the tone like the 6550s do.. especially those tung sol's they have real nice harmonics... Im glad you still have that amp , it was my first cameron and killer killer amp.

6550's have less mids an a little more top and bottom. I guess you can say a tad more modern... I dig em , But i def love el34's to... Depends on the amp , player, and style of music...

I have often wondered what 6550s would sound like in my Cameron Aldrich Marshall. I really like the el34's, but for a fun change, I may have to try the 6550's.

Try Kt-77's - You don't have to change anything on the amp component-wise. I have them in my Cameron now and really like them! Tightens up the bottom-end nicely and smooths out the mids, but they are still there.

Kt77's are cool tubes for sure! The only small gripe i had with them in my HG Jose Cameron, was that even though they tightened up the bottom end a little and smoothed the mids, they did add a little more top than normal EL34's in my amp. To be fair though, i just lowered the treble a touch and that fixed it..

I still think the Winged =C= are hands down the best EL34 tube to put in a Cameron though :) My Aldrich sounded crushing when i switched from E34L's to =C= EL34's. It was a night and day difference!!

How difficult would the swap be to change the 6550's to EL34 just out of curiosity? I know there is at least 1 bias resistor change needed.

Well in a JCM800 or JMP/Plexi, as far as i can remember... the two 150k (or 82k, it depends) bias resistors in a 6550 amp need changing out for 220k's for EL34's. And also a 27k resistor to replace the resistor before the diode.

As much as I like the 77's, I am up for trying others - now I want to try some Winged C's too !

Is this the 50 watt Aldrich I used to own - came with a cane grill?

If so, Mark put in a bias switch to go between the 6550 and EL34 bias ranges.

Hey DOD, just heard the quick clip, that thing sounds awesome. So Mark is shipping now huh? hmmmmm........ :D - Jim

No this doesn't have the switch.

Me too. I like the sound though, especially the way it ends up right between vintage and modern. Is CCV the more "Marshall-y" or "Mesa-y" sounding version of the two new amps?
