That's pretty impressive. I couldn't imagine how many algorithms need to be mutually fine-tuned to get all those sensors and limbs to work together. I've seen some animation videos about virtual creatures learning how to move by themselves according to their physical properties and constraints of their environment. When this thing walks over the ice and it has to swing one side wide to stay up, the legs on the other side anticipate and compensate for the swing back. That sort of anticipation must have been hard to program. It would be extremely interesting (and probably easier in the long run) if these machines would contain the A.I. to figure out for themselves how to move and deal with situations they encounter.
I didn't read anything in that article, but I assumed that this creepy thing was intelligent enough to figure out how to maintain balance on it's own. I mean, it does sound like real AI to me. Like it's "smart" or whatever.
