Trem spring noise-what are the solutions again?

Just curious since I am just starting to play trem equipped guitars, what noise do the springs make and how do i know my springs are affecting the tone/sound?

Sometimes you can get an almost "spring reverb" type artifact to the tones. It's pretty unpleasant.

never had this happen before....until now. My new san dimas, D string....what a fucking racket it makes. I think it's the middle spring. Will def be putting something on/in them.

I tied rubber strings off of earplugs from work around the springs. seems to work well. I like the clear tubing idea mentioned. That would look much better if leaving the trem cavity cover off.

I used some Teflon tape I hd lying around. Works well for the short term,..,.will see how it works over the longer haul...and it comes In Different colors. Mine is white.

You guys do know you can buy noiseless springs from Floyd upgrades right? Not too expensive at $9.95. I am not putting tubes and toilet paper or cotton balls in my guitar when these exist and work. $9.95 for normal ones, $14.95 for the heavy duty (stiffer).

Tried heat shrink tubing. It helped but didn't make them completely silent.

Why spend $50 when a quick home remedy would do the exact same thing? I'm all about not cutting corners and spending the money when it comes to gear but I'll make exceptions with something as trivial as trem springs.

Because the home remedies are temporary or don't work? I'm not into putting toilet paper or any other crap in my springs which could impede their working properly or returning to the same place very time. Those prices are for a set of 3 springs so unless you use all 5 your done for $10 to $15 and never have to worry about noisy springs again. What did you pay for your guitar? Cant swing the price of 2 sets of strings to solve an issue? The heavy duty red ones are higher tension than normal too so chances are you can do with the set of 3.

The fish tank tubes work great and don't impede the strings at all.

OK, Id still just rather have a coated spring and be done with it. They work. If tube works ok but seems to me if its too small it'll have little effect and too big it would restrict the springs movement and return..but its just me. Just my opinion.
