I LOOOOOVE Opeth, but when i saw them live in the early 2000's ,before they really blew up, and they were tuning on stage while the crowd shouted things, my friends and i kind of snickered at it like "Why doesn't he just trust his fucking tech!?" He'd get handed a new guitar before a song, and tune it on stage as soon as he put it on

Tune your guitars quietly and quickly with a pedal

Get a polytune or strobostomp if you are out gigging in the wild like a grownup, and learn the idiosyncrasies of your instrument so you can tune it quickly

I have used a clip on and tune at full volume on stage.
I usually use zero pedals. Other than the channel switcher.
I use a guitar that is stable and in tune when I pull it out of the case. I pretty much just drop to D once in a set.

My bass player is a stand-up comedian for a living. I have worked on and off with this drummer and bass player since 1994. Our interpretation of stage presence is mostly us insulting each other and the audience. We don't really take ourselves seriously.
